Here's one reason you should periodically inspect your air filter. Some mice appear to have had quite a banquet inside mine! Notice the mouse "leavings" scattered about. I'm sure they just crawled right in through the intake vent. Now I know why the OEM filter is encased in steel mesh. It's to keep mice from getting sucked into your engine!

I've been amazed at how mice can get into places but I'm lost how they got all the way up to the intake snorkel and got in. Was the bike covered giving them something to climb up?

Them little buggers can climb on air. My first wing, an 81 was stored all winter in my attached garage, when I started it up in the spring it was very quiet, more so then I remembered, then all of a sudden the back wall was getting peppered with small seeds, they had packed my mufflers full of that stuff. Seems like anything parked for a while will have mice or squirrels pack air filters exhaust systems, and even nests built on the intake manifold, or in the fresh air heater duct, turn on the defroster and all kinds of stuff comes shooting out.

Chevrolet still is the original MOUSE motor but you can claim second if you like. :)

Dont let PETA know about this eviction or they may be picketing in front of your house! You know mice are people too.

Your guess is good as mine. The bike is garaged, no cover. I had the same question though. Can you imagine the curiosity these little creatures must have to even decide to explore that particular nook and cranny of the bike? I'll bet they really thought they'd found the inner sanctum, eh?

Next time I have the tupperware off I'm going to see if I can figure out how they got in. Maybe there are preventative measures I could take. Meanwhile, I'll continue to keep a couple of traps baited with peanut butter nearby. So far, two trespassers have been terminated, with extreme prejudice. ;)

I had the little buggers camp inside both a car airfilter and inside of my riding lawnmower's engine. When I started the lawnmower in the spring, all of the mouse's bedding and feces were sucked around the cylinders of the air cooled v-2 motor and I had to pull the shrouds off of the engine to get all of the junk out of the cooling fins. I got my revenge though, I poisoned the damn things.

You can see the air snorkel without removing any plastic. It's just above the radiator, just below the headlight.

Wonder if you could cover that with some of the 1/4" square screening??
big enough to let the air in, small enough to keep the critters out..

Must be a Honda thing. Although they haven't gotten into my ST (yet) they have chewed up my Accord's air filter on two occasions.
