View Full Version : New ST
Hello all!
I rarely ever post on forums, but I could use a little help. I just took delivery of an 06 ST (awesome), coming off of a V-star. Still trying to sort all the farkles out! After searching extensively in previous posts I am still confused about some things. I am not exactly mechanically inclined so the simpler the better, please!!! I would like to use a Starcom Advance to have the ability to talk with my wife riding pillion (I'm pretty sure I know what I need here). My problem comes in with the fact that I would like to also have MP-3 and GPS (I'm looking at the Garmin 2730 for this). First, what exactly do I need to mount the GPS between the handlebars (I have a Helibar mount on the way)? Second, how would I run the Garmin to the StarCom Advance (I'm assuming this is possible, but what wires would I need and how would I run it)? I was planning on putting the StarCom under the seat? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!! I have already learned a tremendous amount just lurking. Thanks!

whs1,
I can't help with the comm question, since I'm comm challenged myself. But, aside from that, welcome to transitioning from lurking to posting. You will get answers, opinions, and other info. I'm sure you and your SO have some wonderful rides just waiting to be experienced!

Howdy WHS1,
I have the MCL riser and it has a place for a RAM ball so the Garmin can be mounted in between the handlebars. I think the Helibars can be done the same way.
Here is a place to start: http://cyclegadgets.com/Products/RAM/
Not sure how the Starcom differs from the Autocom but there is an optional cable (can be ordered seperately) that is a combination power and audio cable. It allows you to hook the Garmin up to the bike and route the audio to the Autocom (and, presumably, the Starcom).
Check here: http://www.premiercycleproducts.com/streetpilot2730.html
You can find all of these products elsewhere on the Internet. These were just the first I pulled up.

If you get the MCL riser, MCL also sells a craddle to hold the 26xx and 27xx series GPS unit. It doesn't list the 2730, but I think it's because it's just a new model. Great products and prices... fast service ;)

Welcome to the forum,, but im having a hard time understanding why folks want an intercom between rider and passenger. Maybe its just me,,But I ride for the solitude, the quietness, lack of noise, might it be a radio or someone talking to me..Luckily my wife only occasionally rides with me cause shes a real chatter box and would probably drive me crazy with an intercom system.:D
