Hello everyone, the new guy here. I am picking up an 06 ST tomorrow morning. Will be hard to get to sleep tonight. Been reading many things in this forum the past few weeks. many of you helped in the decision with the ST. I too was thinking BMW, either RT or the K1200GT. But really came down to the best bang for the buck, and you can which one won out. Been on a 2 yr hiatus from owning a bike. Built a new house and had to get it the way we wanted before a bike was back in the garage. Will be good to get that adrenaline rush again tomorrow. Been riding something since I was 14, now am 44, and have owned so many different bikes, I don't really care to list them all. Sport bikes, cruisers, tour bikes, I have owned them all. There were different bikes for different reasons and times in my life. I think the ST will be the perfect mix right now, and should be for awhile. I can get a little nuts when out by myself, and some nice smoothness and comfort when the wife comes along.
One quick question. What octane gas are most using ? Thought I saw on the tank that premium is recommended. That is not a problem if that is what works best. Just wondering.
See you folks around,
Jeff

They recommend premium and thats all I run in mine. Nice to know if you can't find premium you can run the other stuff in a pinch though. Danny:biker:

Jeff, congrats on the new bike and welcome back to riding. I run premium, as recommended, but there are others here that use regular with no problems.

I'll add my welcome. Strangely I had very little trouble sleeping the night before. Check everything carefully before riding out, my rear tire was seriously under inflated. I thought I had bought a sluggish, poor handling pig (take it easy guys). What a difference the correct pressure made!!! Ride safe.:03biker:

Yet another warm welcome to the group, and you may lose other nights sleep when you get your first long trip sorted. I get excited over any ride I do on the ST, maybe that is because I ride a CB500 for a lot of my work, and the ST just sits at the back of the garage waiting for my call, and it always responds accordingly.
I also use Premium over here, but then again, I am a tight git, Premium is slightly cheaper over here in the UK but, Honda do say it is okay to use it so I do.
Oh to be 44 again :)

Micky,
I'm pretty certain that UK premium grade is different to the US premium. Ours is 95 octane right? I think in the US premium is lower than that like around 92 or 93 octane. Can anyone confirm that?

Not sure on that one Dave.
I just lift the pump, open the cap and squirt. I pay the bill and away. That is how I look at it, never thought of the grading being different in the US compared with the UK.

Same here, My ST is about a month old (black '06). I also am 6'3 and feel at home in the saddle with my new ride. As for this site, I have tapped the collective wisdom of the group and am "jiggy" with the results.

Thanks to all who replied with the welcome. Also for the comments on the octane. I figured I would just use premium whenever possible.
In responce to STeve1300. Yes the avatar is of some of my work. I do woodworking as a hobby, more of an addiction really. The cardinals are done from what's Intarsia. Best just to do a search on it and you can get more info on it. I am not the best at explaining things in words. I can with demonstrating and having an actual finished project.
I will post my thoughts on the bike after I get some miles in. See you guys around the forum.

You can never have enough addictions.... um, er, hmmm...
Anyhow I see you're from Kenosha. We have an active Midwest group that will host frequent "Ride-To-Eats"...you just missed "Moonshine" (do a search)... so I'm sure you'll meet a few of us "regulars"... keep an eye out for postings. Many of us have logged our locations on this map site (http://www.frappr.com/stownersclub).
See ya around!

Gasoline is generally the same worldwide. The difference you see is that octane ratings are reported differently in different parts of the world.
Ever see that equation, (R+M)/2 printed on the gas pump in the US? It means the octane rating printed on the pump is the average of the Research octane number and the Motor octane number.
In Europe, It's simply the Research octane rating which is printed on the pump.
From Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octane_rating):
In most countries (including all of Europe and Australia) the "headline" octane that would be shown on the pump is the RON, but in the United States and some other countries the headline number is the average of the RON and the MON, sometimes called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI), Road Octane Number (RdON), Pump Octane Number (PON), or (R+M)/2. Because of the 10 point difference noted above, this means that the octane in the United States will be about 4 to 5 points lower than the same fuel elsewhere: 87 octane fuel, the "normal" gasoline in the US and Canada, would be 91 in Europe.
The fuel is the same, it's the measurement that's different.
