Who/where is the beST deal on these jackets?

www.newenough.com had the best deal on the NEW model... which is what I have. I've seen others that were a little cheaper, but they were the older model... no liner, no leather

Plus you can donate a free $1 to the site... only downside is we live in TX and pay tax :(

Well since Tourmaster/Cortech has changed their pricing policy we won't be seeing many huge differences in advertised prices. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried calling the vendor instead.

The Cortech GX AIr w/leather lists for 179.99 but have seen it selling for 161.99. Just watch the shipping. Newenough offers free shipping at that price I believe.

I purchased mine before the changes in policy and paid 139.00 + shipping at the end of March.

Ordered one GX Air w/Leather from them...the site will get it's donation. I'm not the biggest fan of new enough just because those of in Texas have to pay tax on purchases.

We will order a second one once my wife tries on the one I ordered.

Hmmm....what are you're measurements?? I'm 5'9", 175 lbs, wear a "large" First Gear Mesh 2.

Sherob, if I order a large is it going to be huge on me?? Give me your .02 also.

I wear a XL in everything... I got a XL in the GX air... it is a little roomy without the liner in it... but not huge on me (perfect with liner). My only comlaint is the sleeve length is a little long for me... I have short arms

Hmmm I just sent one of these back. Not because of quality but because it does seem to be cut too big.

I looked like a football player in the same size I have 2 other cortech jackets in? While the others do fit slightly big, they are nothing like this one.

So if you do go with one, and yer in between sizes, go with the smaller. Definately the case with this particular jacket anyway. Hank

5'10" 163 lbs 41L jacket size

I didn't care for the amount of 'movement' in the arms. I want the pads to stay where they are in a slide. I just felt like they needed to be more snug than I could get them with the adjustments on the arms.

The new jackets are due in tomorrow and I will post up with more information when they get here.

+1 on this post.

It's even more important w/mesh. Where there's no armour in the jacket you have very little protection.

That's why I liked the GX Air...they reinforce the critical area's w/leather. Same with the pants we have on order.

That's what's sweet about this jacket as far as the elbow armour... you have 3 snaps that you can use to tighten or loosen the positioning of the armour. Without the liner, you have to tighten it up... with liner, you loosen it up. It does a pretty good job of holding it in place... unlike other jackets where the armour is where it is

Yeah, but it still felt too loose even when tightened up. It may be that I don't get to use the second liner.

I'm not a big fan of the snaps...wish they had done a velcro system. I don't know if I trust the snaps to hold in a fall.

The jackets came in...we will be keeping one of them for me but are returning the other one. It's too big for my wife.

Looking at the Firstgear Leather Mesh-Tex Jacket since it's made in womens sizes.

mawonline has these for 129.95 but you have to have them email you the price.

For you that have these, did you order a smaller size that you normally use in a jacket?

Make sure that $129.95 price is the 2006 model and not a leftover 2005 model... the 05 model doesn't have the liner, nor the leather overlays ;) Big difference between the two years

I'd like make a quick 'thank you' to Rob, Bill, Hank and others for recommending this jacket. I recently sold a few jackets of various makes and materials that I replaced with the new GX Air from newenough for $162 with free shipping (and a free donations to ST-Owners.com!). One jacket replaces three.

The versatility of this jacket is what appealed to me - the two liners make it really handy up in here in the NE where it may go from 40 in the morning to 75 later the same day. But I'm really pleased with the fit, quality, price, and especially the see-me-yellow color! Thanks all! :bow1:

Glad you like it Ken. I'll be selling my Bumble Bee yellow soon when I get my Bumble Bee yellow MotoPort Ultra II Kevlar Air Mesh :) The Cortech has been a great jacket... and for the money, I don't think you could get a better deal on protection and comfort

Yes, Motorcycle Accessory Warehouse -- I've purchased tires from them before and received great service.

They have Tourmaster products (look under Tourmaster, not Cortech), and they show the GX Air Jacket with leather).. so I assume it is the current model.

So, anyone, about the size? Did you buy this jacket a size smaller than normal. I'm thinking I'd rather have it a little snug if I need the thermal line, and NOT have a loose fit without it.

Thanks!

Walt

PS -- great ride to the office today!

I have a XL... it is loose without the liner, perfect with the liner. My only complaint is the sleeve length for me is to long, short arms

If I went with a L, it would probably fit great without the liner and pretty snug with it... but I like a little room for lunch... got have room for pie :p:

NOT,,, that I am still,,, THINKING,,, about a Cortech jacket or anything...

BUT,,, I just looked up the Tourmaster jacket,,, (((Thanks Waltb))) WITH,,, the leather inserts,,, fresh,,, new model,,, and the price??? $126.34,,, but shipping to here at least bumps it up to $146.34... Shipping price may vary where you live,,, but,,, not much...

Talls were the same price as regulars,,, but,,, OF COURSE,,, they were out of the XL Tall... Course,,, I could do the next best thing and get a XXL and get some added length but,,, would rather have a XL Tall...

UUUuuuMMMmmm,,, of course,,, if I was really thinking,,, about this jacket that is... :o:

How long of arms you have Sherob??? From my arm pit,,, to JUST,,, past my wrist is 26 inches with arms stretched out...

Around my chest,,, with me taking a big breath,,, is 48 inches...

And,,, no,,, I ain't telling you what the measurement around my waist is,,, but,,, lets just say,,, that my 38 inch pants MUST,,, have a LARGE,,, overhang above them!!! I am not sure they should be called pants,,, or,,, a retaining wall!!!

So,,, with this info oh wise one,,, do you think I can fit into a XL??? Namely,,, YOUR,,, used,,, Jacket??? :D

sherob
05-23-2006, 10:12 AM
LOL!!! I have 23" arms using your measuring method... and the sleeves are about 2" too long ;) I am the same size in the chest ;)

Terry,

I got the L Tall the day before I had to return to my overseas job...got in a two hour ride. I'm 6'1", wear those 38 pants with a little overhang, and a 24" arm length using your method of measure. My Cortech GX Air fits perfect with liner and little loose with mesh only. Also, the tall is about 1" long for me, but I prefer that over the regular being too short. Remember, the tall comes in black only, again OK with me. Mine is a keeper...I can't imagine any other jacket could give as many features for the price.

I think you will find the XL will not be too tight for you and the sleeve length should be about right...you may even like the L if a little snug with the liner is OK.

I'm 5' 8" and about 140. Usually go for M or 40 in a coat size, although the suit I'm wearing for my daughter's upcoming wedding is a 38 coat size. Size 42 is roomy but comfortable, but too large for a bike jacket I think. So I'm thinking a 40 or 38.

Glad to hear good things about this jacket. I've been looking for while. I don't like the highway jacket with the ST1300 riding position because it's too open at the neck.

I'm thinking black or silver. Even with the safety aspects yellow I don't think I wear yellow on a red bike.

Toro thanks for the reply,,, WHICH,,, I missed till right now...

Ok,,, here is the story...

I was on E-Bay and saw where Ridegear.com had some stuff for sale... The had a Firstgear Leather-Mesh jacket for "Buy it Now" for $100... Have a friend that told me point blank,,, "If I ever find one at $100 he wanted it so,,, I bought it...

I get an E-mail that says that they would have to order it...

?????

So,,, they sold,,, a jacket,,, they did not have???:bsflag:

Ok,,, what ever...

Then,,, I get an e-mail from them that they were unable to send me my jacket because they are no longer available... They even said that the jacket I "Ordered" was not going to ship...

I went off on them,,, B I G,,, T I M E!!!:rocket1:

I wrote them back that I did NOT,,, order a jacket,,, I bought,,, a jacket and had already paid for it... In their write up on E-Bay they said this,,,

***All sales through RideGear.com on eBay are final. No returns or exchanges
are allowed at any time or for any reason.***

So,,, I told them I expected,,, and DEMANDED that they live by their own rules... :shtf1:

So,,, today,,, I get a very nice reply from them... They will let me buy ANY,,, jacket for $200 or less to make up for this mistake... :woo

So,,, long story but,,, I am thinking LONG,,, and hard about getting myself,,, the Cortech GX Air Jacket with the leather...

Ok,,, enough thinking,,, I am going with it!!!

XL Tall is what I think I will order...

But,,, wish I could find a GREAT,,, $199.99 jacket as the Cortech is "Just",,, $179...

Go for that GX Air Terry. I got one a couple weeks ago and it's fantastic. Well made. Comfortable. Versatile. In my case, one jacket replaced three.

Hey Terry, what a deal!! This will rank in the top ten of the best $100 you've ever spent.

The UPS truck dropped a GX jacket for my wife yesterday, along with FirstGear mesh pants. She decided to go with the Cortech GX in small, rather than a mesh jacket in a ladies cut, to get the features of the GX. It fits her great with the lining...a little loose with both linings out.

I suggested she wear the mesh jacket and pants to her ladies luncheon today. For reasons not entirely clear to me, she failed to embrace my idea!?!?
