Well, been riding on the street since I was 16 and today had my first flat tire. And let me tell you , a ST1300 does not handle well at all with 5 lbs of air in the rear tire.

So. I’m undecided. At 9000 miles they did have some tread left but I’m sorta leaning to replacing both. I’m at work now . Could someone post the stock ST1300 tire sizes and Bridgestone model of tire that comes on bike. I’ve been pretty happy with them and I need to start locating replacements

And take the bike to dealer or remove wheels myself and just take wheels ?? Sorta sounds like removing wheels on a ST is a bit of a pain.

Dad gum it and the weather is going to be fantastic this week

Your're early at work, Terry  I am still sitting at home sipping coffee.......Here ya go:
Front: 120/70ZR18
Rear: 170/60ZR17
OEM's:
Bridgestone BT020
Dunlop D220ST
I just had a set of Pilot Roads put on. The first thing I noticed was the much softer ride, compared to the OEM Battlax tires. I got 11700 miles out of the OEM's. I really like Pilot Roads though.

Make sure you get oem replacement tires, should have an F designation for the ST1300
Bridgestone BT020 120/70ZR18 170/60ZR17
If your going to change them yourself swmoto has good prices and fast delivery :biker:

Thanks

Must have picked up a nail or something on the way home Sunday. I did not check the tire before starting her up this morning , my excuse being at 5:30am in the morning I'm even more worthless than normal. But from now on i'll at least do a squeeze/kick test. Only got 50 or so feet down the street before my not quite awake brain kicked into gear and said "Dumbass, something aint right"

Thanks for the tire info folks.

Hmmmm dealer has the Dunlops in stock. Any opinions as to Dunlops vs Bridgestone ????

The oem Bridgestones have been on backorder for at least a month now. At least the fronts have been non-existant. I don't think anyone likes the Dunlops. I have been very pleased with the Bridgestones as far as handling and longevity.

BTW, I sliced a rear a week ago. The handling disappeared but the wheel never took a hit and was able to maneuver to the side of the road without feeling like something was going to slide out.

Don't think the Dunlops last as long as the 'Stones..
Also, last time I checked, (About a week ago) SW was still waiting
for the BS st1300 front tires to come in. They had the rears, but not
the fronts. Might want to give them a call before you order..

Yea thats the problem. The BSs are not avaliable. My local dealer has the Dunlops in stock . Its 75 degrees out and clear blue skys. I'm not a patient person I'm afraid. Just was wondering if the Dunlops are really that bad.

Would it be bad if I said I rode to work and enjoyed the nice weather this morning? (Charlotte too)

After a few hundred miles on the "stones" I'm definitely going to Pilot Road myself. I use their Pilot Power Race for my trackbike, and have heard awesome things about the Road's.

Is it the Metzeler ME880 170/60VR-17 Rear that you have to order???

I can't remember now... I need to get some ordered and setting on the shelve for later this year... I guess,,, I am going with the Z/6 - 880 combo again as I am looking at 10,000 - 12,000 total miles in July and August over 20 days...

Not sure anything else will get me there and back other than this combo???

I do my service myself. Been working on my trackbike for years, so I'll do as much as I can myself. Anything major, I have a friend in alabama that does Dyno/engine work. I'll make a road trip out of it and have him do it!

Bought it at Performance Honda in Pineville last week. Not overly impressed with the stealership. Have had much better service elsewhere.

scuse me while I ride home for lunch :06biker:

Actually I'm looking for other ST riders to head out on Saturday mornings. That's my kitchen pass most weeks if I'm in town...

yes, replace both .... !

just had mine done, both BT020's bike feels young again .... it's all good, in fact *very* good ... like riding on a cloud.

left the bike at shop for the day, they even gave me a scooter (!) for the day man that Silverwing is a p.o.s .... wow, those 400cc just don't cut it anymore .... we used to ride small bikes .... HA!

$$$$ ... I get a good discount on tires but pay 1.2 hrs labour ... it works both ways, as in they lent me a scooter to get to work ... I have dropped a few $$$$ here over the years ... all good.

I also need to know which Metzeler ME880 to order. I put Pilot Roads on in early February and I now have a little over 5000 miles on them and the rear needs to be replaced. :(
Thanks,:04biker:

I like the PR's better than any BS, Dunlop, or Metz I have had on this or my ST11. Great manners all around, and better in rain than anything I've used before... just did about 700 fairly spirited miles of rain last weekend and was really very pleased. Only tire that's been better for me at any one thing... the Metz's had better extreme dry traction, but wore faster and were lousy in water. I will replace my PR's with PR's, no doubt.

How did ya manage that? 5000 miles??? And your rear PR is done???

My rear Pilot Road lasted 9K to the twi's, the front had another 500 miles.

To me, the Pilot Roads seem stiff; seems like I have to fight to get them to lean in tight turns. While leaning, they slip easier than AV45/46's on damp roads or tar snakes. I don't like that kind of excitement. And, they were loud in the lean from day one. My set cupped badly.

Roads are not a bad tire, but other choices seem better. I am not sure why they are $15 to $25 more a set.

I just got a Pilot for the back tire. My dunlops disintigrated WAY too fast, (4000 miles).

From what I have gathered the Pilot, the Metz 880 or the Bridgestone will all do a rough 10,000 on average (more or less depending on your riding style).

The PR's do sound different than the dunlops, but I wouldn't call it loud, just different.

They seemed a little more resistant to a turn than the Dunlops, but that is argueable since I had to wait a week inbetween riding, which might have just been me playing it safe when I got back on.

I was expecting around 10,000 after reading the reviews on the PR's so I'm a little disappointed. I commute about 47 miles one way and 60% of that is super slab. I check the air pressure every weekend an it hasn't varied over 2 psi. I don't think that I'm very aggressive. Anyway, I just ordered a set of ME880's so I'll see how many miles they will last. I'm also going to mount these myself and save about a hundred bucks.:)

I've got better than 8000 miles on my PRs and won't bother changing them until after NESTOC. By then they'll be approaching 10,000 and it'll be time. That's about what I got out of the OEM BT020's and way way more than the Z6's which were great when new but lost their newness too quickly.

Doobage, I think what you view as the PR's reluctance to turn in is a function of the rounder profile than on the Z6's or BT020's, which are pointier and fall in more abruptly than PR's which tend to turn in in a linear fashion no matter how tight you turn. I'm happier with the predictable nature of the PR's than I was with the abrupt fall in of the others. My $.02.

It's good to have a choice that reflects your riding style...go with what you like.

Southwest Moto Tires had two of the fronts. The PR's rode and handled very good but I need more mileage from a set of tires. I got 10,300 out of the original Bridgestones.

Dang,
I should have waited another week before I ordered my z6/880 combo...
I would have liked to try the 880/880 combination.. I got around 14K miles
out of my z6/880's, the front was into the wear bars, rear still had some more
miles left it in...

Sticking with the Bridgestones. Have ordered a new rear and hopefully will get that on this weekend. Front still has lots of tread but when fronts became avaliable again I'll replace it.

Could'nt see any nails or anything in tyre. Its a pretty slow leak Filled it to 42 last night , was down to 35 this morning. Go figure

try a little soapy water around the valve stem... see if it is leaking there...

I'd go with the Avons before the Dunlops. I'm getting about 12K out of my Avons though I will say the OEM D220s lasted to 11K. The OEM Dunlops were heavy handling though and lost their neutral steering characteristics at 4-5k miles. Too soon IMNSHO. Not going there again personally.

DUNFLOPS ARE THAT BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

DON'T!!!!!!!!!!

I TELL YOU DON'T!!!!!!!!!!!

:p:

I had Dunflops on my Daytona (208's)...they sucked.

I have Dunflops on the ST...they suck.

If you want any type of performance out of your tires, get something else.
