Just starting to install aux. power sockets for the ST. I'll probally not use heated grips cause I use Gerbing Gloves and socks(works great). I do have from a previous bike XM radio, and a J+M CB, of which I have already mounted. My plan is to install the dual rear powerlet kit.(bmw adapt) #1 socket battery tender (allways on), and #2 socket heated clothing(acc and ignition sw). Installing a cigarette lighter adapt.in side of right glove box for posible cell phone conn. All other wiring, noise filters, and power converters will be wired internally. Just picked up the Quartet wiring harness, searched and found color code for harness wires. Plan to cut off factory ends and install 6 plug universal end to run wiring throughout bike. Any suggestions? Rd/Blk-12v ign. only, no acc.
lt grn/blk-12v on acc only
rd/grn-12v on always
Question: Any way to get acc and ign to work XM radio? seems I'de have to choose, and rather not have to install switch for xm from main buss if can help it.
Question: what is the Acc. and Ign.output lines fused at?
Thanks;
Howie...

Howie,

I'm not sure I'm reading your question correctly. If your asking how to get the XM working with the key in on and accessory positions then you want to use the wires from the red 3-pin connector. It has Light Green/Black wire for both positions and Green for ground. The other connectors use Red/Black for switched 12 volt (ignition on) or Red/Green for constant 12 volt.

Thanks for reply; With the XM or any radio, it should be able to test or tune w/o ign.on. It seems the ACC. switch only puts on the dash lts. and clock. will I be able to, or just use ign. sw wiring (rd/blk). Also I was told Lt grn/blk is for ACC. only. My plan is to use the Quartet harness, cutting the multi conn. blocks off, and install a 6 terminal trailer plug to extend the harness to the seat/ batt. area, install a dual powerlet assembly near the shock adjuster #1 for constant 12v for the Battery tender, and#2 for heated gloves/clothes (ign. sw) probably not to excced 5 amps. I'm als oinstalling a cigarette lighter outlet in the right glove box for accecories sa. cell phone. Do you know the fused amp rating of these sw/unsw. outputs from the Quartet harness? If not; I can test by pulling fuses w/ tester.

Thanks again

ACC is fused at 15A. It is switched and has power in the ACC and ON ignition positions. Listed in the fuse box as ACC/Turn signal.

The always on wire is fused at 10A. It is listed as "Battery" in the fuse box. This always on circuit is also powering the bikes clock, fuel and trip meters. Blow this fuse and they all reset each time you turn the ignition off.

Thanks for reply; are these available aux.amps, or total drawn on these fused circuits? Even if total draw (15A)w/ turn signal, I hope I'll be Ok w/ Heated gloves, and charger and /or cell phone(10A).

Obviously total draw since that is the rating of the fuse in the fuse box. Heated gloves are typically 20-25 watts max. Heated grips are around 35-40 watts max. Cell phone power is not really worth considering.

I know I replied to this thread before but somehow it's not there.

You can get the connectors that mate to the quartet harness at Electrical Connections.
http://www.electricalconnection.com/electrical-components/hitachi.htm

That way you don't have to cut the connectors off and start all over.

The light green/black wire is on for the ACC position AND for the ON position so that is where you want to get power for the XM but you'll have to use a power convertor because the XM does not take 12V.

Thanks for reply. I've just ordered the Hitachi ends for the Quartet harness, 4-3 plg, and 1-6plug (one each as a spare). It'll look and connect better. By the way; You have the same bike as I(04 blue) w/ the E52 Maxima Givi box w/ removable rack. I ordered a CB rack to fit under the Givi rack, but must modify to reduce weight. Also ordered the dual bwm style power plugs which mounts near the shock adjuster. should be good for charger/ heated gloves.
Thanks;
