Had my check ride yesterday morning. This is a ride where my normal observer has asked another observer to go out with me to see if he agrees I'm ready for my test. It was raining when I left home but then it cleared for the first half of the ride. We went on a route of about 100 miles, deliberately to areas that I have not visited before so that I would be riding strange roads.
The route was a mixture of main dual carriageways, country roads, town centers and villages with of course many associated speed limit changes. Some of the country roads had some lovely sweeping bends while others were much tighter and unpredicable. Plenty of roundabouts, traffic lights and of course road works to negotiate too. All of this gave me great opportunity to demonstrate my practice of 'The System'.
We stopped about half way through for a cup of coffee and full english breakfast (Almost as good as a US burger) :D While we were stopped it started raining quite hard and this didn't let up for the rest of the ride.
The observer agreed I am definitely ready for my test and so will be put in for it immediately. Funnily enough, while we were out I saw another associate from my group with our area examiner, so he was obviously on his test. I hope he passed. The observer had some good advice for me on areas where I could improve further, particularly with maintaining a smoother line through a series of bends and so I'll be working on that over the next couple of weeks.
I'm told, although perhaps others here can confirm, that I've done quite well to get this far with just 4 observed rides. Usually people have 7 or 8 or even more before it's felt they're ready for their test. Hopefully I won't be reporting back in a few weeks that I failed
As a side note, my observer told me that a couple of times he'd noticed my brake light was on when it shouldn't have been and for quite long stretches. It can't be missed because of the spoiler on the top box. We had a look and worked out it must have been my right boot just slightly catching the brake pedal and the switch was way too sensitive. The light was coming on with only about 1/8 inch travel of the pedal and so I adjusted the switch when I got home.
Regards,
