There is a nice amount of sweepers in this route, along with a bunch of tighter back road turns, and some very cool tall back road hills complete with turns, and long views. Also as ever there is the always fine Pepacton Reservoir, but we will be doing one side before lunch and the other after lunch, so we get to do both sides this year (one side sweepers the other side turns).

Lunch is no frills at TA's (not like the name sounds), inexpensive, but what I ate there was quite good in comparison to other possibilities.

Traditional Ice cream at Andes is included as well.

STreets and Trips seems to think we will be back at 5pm if we leave on time in 8Am, however the program tends to be optimistic sometimes so it might be a bit later.

Dawn and I went up to some of the route area yesterday with the bikes. The rains really cleared the roads very nicely indeed. :) However as rain tends to do there is still some gravel wash-ons in places where roads intersect so still keep an eye on the surface (most notably at intersections. It's absolutely great compared to earlier in the year for sure. Traffic was light, and the ride was a pleasure.

In the unlikely chance of just steady rain Saturday, I'm posting this alternate Route. It is complete highway riding in the Adirondacks past Lake Sacandaga and Lake Luzern, to lake George. It would give us around 3 hours to poke around the town of Lake George and get lunch there. Then head north and off to home via the Adirondack Highways to Speculator and down Route 10 (a winding highway) back to Cobleskill around 5pm. It’s still 217 miles of riding, but since it’s all highway it takes less time to complete.

It could make a more enjoyable wet day route for couples as it avoids more technical stuff and has a number of hours off the bike poking around town.

It's just a remote possible suggestion for a worst-case weather scenario. I'm posting the MapSource route for those who might want it in their GPS.

John and STeve, I'll email you guys this one.
