Are there any riders or groups of ST riders that plan to be departing or passing through the Dallas area on Saturday?

If so I would like to join you (or I would be please to have you join me).

I will be traveling alone this trip. I have reserved one room at the Marriott with 2 double beds for 4 nights Sun thru Wed (c/o on Thursday as requested). I would like to share the room and cost, so if you are in need of such let me know - e-mail or reply.

I think it would be neat to have group rides from different areas of the country. Picking up additional groups and/or riders as we get closer to the destination.

Just a thought.

I'll let you know if my plans change, but for now, I'm planning a trip with a couple GS riders to California and then up to Canada and back down to Denver then over to NatSTOC in Arkansas.

The way gas is, not sure my vacation budget can handle a big trip this year.. but I'm gonna try as hard as I can. Again, if this doesn't work out for me and I have to make two smaller trips instead of one large one, I'll let you know... Of course, I'm on a Wing... so, I'm assuming you don't mind waiting on me...

No, most of my ridding is with the DFW Roadrunners out of the Hurst area. All Wingers. I've been ridding since 62' but this is my first ST. A real different feel. I like it. The seat is a little hard going to work on that.

LOL..don't let him fool you. I've ridden with him before and his wing has "Wings" that let him fly along at a brisk pace. Of course Joe could be talking about all the DQ stops he makes.

What time do you think you will be passing through Wichita Falls. Once we are in Colorado I can show you a more INDIRECT way to Golden To the West of I-25: From WF it takes me about 10 1/2 hours to get to Denver directly and about 14 hours INDIRECTLY 03biker:

Indirect route - Humm - would that be 165, 67, 115 into Colorado Springs then 67 and 85 into Denver to 470W loop? Just a guess you understand.

Let's see, my route planner indicates with an 8AM departure I will be arriving in WF at 10:27 AM. I could push that to a 6AM departure and get there about 8:30AM. Still sounds kinda late departure out of WF for you. You think you will still be in town at 8:30?

From WF it would cut off 120+ miles and 2hrs. That makes the WF to Golden a pretty nice ride for the day. I'm sure you planned on doing the trip straight through. Right? Maybe an overnight in Raton and ride the back roads into Golden on Sunday?

I have lots of vacation so I planned the easy route to get there and then be rested for the Colorado roads. Especially if I had to go it alone.

My original plan was a departure at ~ 8AM on Saturday
Day 1
Dallas to Clayton, NM - 500+ miles Could push it to Raton and about 600 miles
Day 2
Clayton to Golden = 350 miles That would be the direct route.
your INDIRECTLY route would add some miles and some really good roads I'm sure.

Story:
I made that ride from Weatherford to Denver in one day. Kinda rough for me on my carb'ed Vulcan. I started to loose focus at about 650 miles. Not something you want to do on a bike. I don't remember how many hours it took but we left before sun up and got there well after sun down. Just North of Pueblo we hit construction, rain, snow, sleet, and pitch black darkness. Could only see about 50 yards and then it was only the tail light of the bike ahead. Hoping the leader could see better that we could. I have this big picture of all 8 of us going over a cliff one right after the other like a bunch of Limmings.

Sounds like it could be a bit more interesting that my usual rides to DQ. I'm ok with that too. LOL

Almost but not quite. 72 into Raton than 12 out of Trindad. 165 out of Colorado City. 96, 69, 50, 9, to Guffey cross over to 24, 67, 126, to 285 into town. Or 24 all the way into Colorado Springs then a bit of I-25 to Mounument and pick up 105 to Sedalia. Then I double back and cross over I-25 and pick up 83 into Parker and then Aurora.:03biker: :)

MSnyder and Chuck,

My plan is to leave Dallas at or about 8AM Sept 2nd and spend my first night in Clayton, NM. The route is most direct up 287 and 87 for a total of 487 miles and about 9 hrs of ridding. My gas stop and lunch are tenitative for Childress, TX (248 miles from Irving) and rest stops as required.

Chuck,
MSnyder and I could stop in WF to pick you up for the trip. My guess is I/we will be coming through WF at about 10:30 AM earlier if I/we get away sooner than 8AM

MSnyder,
If you wanted to ride to Irving on Friday, you and the wife could spend the night with us. We could all take off from Irving at the same time. That would knock off 234 miles and about 4 hrs. Think about it. If it can work for you the option is open. If not, let me know where you will be staying for your first night and maybe I can meet you on your way on your day 2.

Let me know if this fits your plans. My plans are NOT cut in stone. On all my Colorado trips I have stayed my first night at the Super8 in Clayton, NM. Nice people and biker friendly.

The distance from Clayton to Golden in about 315 miles which should put us in there about 2 or 3 pm on Sunday. Route is 87 to 25 and 470W around Denver to Golden.

Of course the alternative is to go the senic way and take 3 days to get there. I personally would like to get there and be rested for the CO roads.

If you guys left on Friday and spent the night in Raton. I could leave Friday at noon from work and meet you all in Raton that night. Then lead you all thru my alternative route thru Colorado to Golden. From Raton to Golden Direct is 230 miles or so. My alt route would be about 400 miles from Raton. From Clayton to Raton is only 87 more miles. Just some thoughts. Leaving from Wichita Falls at 10:30 for me is a bit to late. Too hot by then. Typically
When I go to Denver From WF, I leave about 05:00/06:00 in the morning and make it a one day run. If I leave at noon on Friday from work I will spend the night in Raton and make the trip from Raton thru the mountains into Denver. If I leave after work on Friday's (3 PM or later) I will stay at Dumas TX. for the night. Just some Ideas for meeting up with you guys. If it works great if not see you all in Golden.:03biker:

Super - I'll get the tent set up on Thursday so it will air out :tent3:

LOL just kidding.

We look forward to meeting you and your wife. Will it just be the two of you? Are you ridding two up or two bikes or one bike and one car/truck? It's about 4 hrs to Irving, what time do you think ya'll be arriving?

Your offer is tempting but I can't get off on Friday. Look forward to meeting you in Golden. Have a safe trip. Sorry we couldn't hook up for the ride in.

G Man,

I miss counted my available vacation days and am one short of what I wanted so I will either need to meet you in Irving Saturday morning or along your planned route up in north Texas or maybe your overnight spot in Clayton. Sorry about the confusion but I didn't count the days right and originally planned on leaving Sunday taking interstates the whole way just to get there by mid to late day Monday.

So I will work on the planning a little bit more but looks like we will be able to hook up on Saturday in irving or somewhere along the way.

What is your planned route anyway?

Anyone else that wants to join along is more than welcome by the way

If ya'll make it to Clayton in one day that will be about 14 hrs in the saddle with quick rest and gas stops. 700 + miles - That's some good ridding. These old bones won't let me do that any more. At about 600 I start to loose focus and have to pull over. I try to keep it below 550 a day. But tha'ts just me and the way I ride now. If I don't see ya'll on the road I'll see ya in Golden. I'll PM u with phone numbers.
