and I even know why I felt it!
I did the first oil change yesterday on the 06. After I got done I of course had to "test ride". I was wearing jeans and my JR jacket. After about 10 minutes I began to feel heat along my inner thighs. Not searing, sizzling heat, but it was there. Now since I am famous for my not ever feeling unexpected heat out of the ST I was really amazed.
I made a stop and got off to look.
I found that the seat was not set where I usually keep it. During wiring installs last week I had the tank up which means I had to move the seat attaching bar back out of the way and when finished It ended up on the low setting.
This resulted in a visible space between the upper edge of the seat and the frame around the motor. Since the motor is rigidly mounted to the frame there was a nice hot piece of the frame radiating heat on my thighs. I moved the seat back to the normal position for me, all the way up front and middle for the back and the heat sensation was gone.
Do a lot of the folks that feel heat on a regular basis have their seats set low in the front?
inquiring minds want to know?

I was chatting to a Courier Rider the other day, and yes, for a change it was pretty damn hot here in our part of the UK.
He had an 03 ST1300 same as mine and he was complaining vividly about the heat coming from the ST. Okay, it has been quite hot over here the past few days and the bike has got hot as I have been riding but, I really do not see an issue with that, particularly in the weather conditions we have in the UK.
He complemented the bike in every way except for the heat issue and I just pointed out that with our ever changing weather conditions, it is only like this for a few days in a year, so what was the problem.
His bike had covered 130,000 miles, so he does do some riding and covers some miles, but I think he was over the top a little with the heat issue here in the UK particularly.
I came home the other day, parked the bike in the garage and the temp was reading 42 degrees 'C', that is hot for us, but whilst riding it was not an issue as the flowing air cooled everything a little, including my 'Gonads' LOL. it is only when you become stationary in traffic that you may feel a heat issue, but that soon goes as soon as you move off, well for me it does anyway.
I am still not sure when I first went over to talk to the guy, that he was commenting on the heat issue as a topic of conversation because I think he was a little amazed that I went over and made a point to talk to him.
Not a problem, but I do not worry about the heat coming off the bike, cuz if the heat is coming off the bike, then I know we have some super fine weather conditions here in the UK for a change LOL.

Friday our temp hit 100 with high humidity, but the heat from the bike was no different than at lower temperatures. Not a problem. However my seat is in the middle position.
AND ITS BLACK, which of course is faster than the other colors, so maybe that extra velocity keeps it cooler :D
I have been one of those compalining mightly about the heat. Worst heat of any of my 25 plus bikes I have owned. I live in CA desert. Spring temps ( if we have one) is usually abt. 103. The other day I experimented with seat position. Huge difference. I am waiting for a new Russell seat. After that I will experiment with some insulation to make sure heat doesn't escape between tank/frame and seat. Will adv. result. Oh, I have the wind wings, don't know what difference they make re: the heat between my legs.

I rode about 260 miles yesterday from Charlotte, through the low country of SC to Charleston (took the back roads 521 all the way to the coast then down 17). Temps showed between 93 and 99 the whole way with moderate humidity. I didn't notice any heat other than what I consider normal from an engine. I did notice when stopped that there was some, but not overly uncomfortable. I did ride it to sit around on, so it doesn't bother me much...
Taking the mighty Slab back to Charlotte today though, so we'll test it out while I'm in the sea of cars and see if it makes any difference.
IBO.
I have posted my heat solution several times, it is very simple to fix, my "03" was HOT and now it is NOT.
I think if you do a search on heat you will find my latest post.
If you don't find it then I can reproduce it if you are interested.

I rode a few hundred miles across the desert today in temps up to 108 degrees...my 'chestnuts' were roasted.
Today was the most uncomfortable I've been on the bike since I got it. My Sargent was in the middle position. Usually when I make a trip like this, I have the seat in the highest position and it does not bother me as much. Also, I think I may have been riding alot closer to the tank as there were some wind issues with trucks and was ducking down behind the screen.
I-10 through Palm Springs is ridiculously windy-- hate riding that stretch.
