I think I am more impressed with the Gold Wing shot. He is scraping everything in that one. Pretty cool. Oh, and love the license plate too.

For a winger leaning like that, he has the highway pegs in a dangerous spot. He would be better off having them on the vertical bar IMHO.

That ST1100 guy is great, but I can relate to the winger. I'll never ever be a knee down rider...
The guy on the wing has sparks from at least 3 spots...great design, huh? I think his pegs are ok, he's not going to go much further, and they are still clear. If he goes much farther, we'd see his front wheel with air under it.

my question is why (on the wing) thats a what 23-28k bike to lean that far and it def not made to do that but i guess to each his own

Also, why is the ST rider dragging a knee? Just for looks and a photo op. There is no need to have a knee down at that angle IMO.

When I have a Wing one day, it will be leaned like that.
That is exactly what it is meant for. Cross-country cruising with peg down cornering.

Because he's a knobber, same as anyone who does the knee-down nonsense on the road. If anything catches or it just slips out from under him he's in that oh so attractive foliage on his right. Just my opinion.

Folks, don't be quick to negate the Wing. The machines are totally AMAZING. I rode Wings for a lot of years, until they just got to be too big and too elaborate with too many gimmicks (like computers, cruise controls, built in radios etc.) The handling is amazing. The 1800 handles better than my last one (a 93 1500SE) which had the nubs all worn off the bottoms of the pegs, the under enging cowling was all scarred from hard contact, and it had a scrape or two on the bottom of the saddlebag guards... The GL may be a big luxury touring boat, but when the road gets twisty, it is MORE THAN CAPABLE... it just depends on rider skill level and how crazy the rider wants to be.

Followed "Yellow Wolf" through Deals Gap Sunday as he was filming some pictures of a nice little $49,000 BMW 4 wheeler that is a mix of a Indy Car/4-Wheeler/Boxer motored whiz bang,,, go fast machine...
All I can say is,,, IF,,, IF YOU CAN keep up with him,,, JUST KEEP UP,,, with him,,, you are a good rider...
IF,,, IF,,,, you can stay behind him,,, you are a great rider... Final answer... Name your bike,,, you will have a H E L L,,, of a time keeping tucked with him...
IF,,, you can pass him,,, you have Rockets stuck on your bike,,, or are taking a week off of the Motorcycle World Racing circuit...
:bow1:
And,,, the answer is,,, no,,, I did not pass him... But,,, I did talk to him...:D

Terry,
When were you at the GAP? I was there in all afternoon on Fathers Day and saw yellow wolf at the lodge. The BMW was also there. Would have liked to meet you. Oh well. I don't remember seeing any other ST's there, but I was trying to focus on my riding.

Because he is at that bike's maximum lean angle. In order to turn sharper, you hang off the bike, get more weight to the inside and then the bike can turn harder without having to lean more. But he looks like a novice, he should have his shoulder and head off to the side instead of keeping it centered in the windscreen.

Sorry Rob!!! Missed your post till just now...
We were at the Gap store from,,, about 8 am - 10 am maybe??? Talked to Yellow Wolfe down there right after he pulled in for the Morning...
I talked to a bunch of Connie guys and hard to imagine I know,,, got talked into telling my,,, "Green Bay Packer after the game Crash" story,,, again... :D
We only made 1 pass through and then sat up on top at the overlook about 1 hour maybe... There had been a wreck right behind my friends and we just sat up there yacking will all the folks... I,,, MIGHT,,, have seen you go by the Turn around spot at the Overlook... You were heading towards the lake,,, and did not stop,,, and my bike was behind a Harley who just pulled up so I was hard to spot... Could it have been you??? Right color at least... :)

That was my point: If he was positioned correctly he would not need to lean so far! If he would weight the peg and get his head inside the curve instead of just hanging the knee out for a photo op he would corner more efficiently.

I agree Tiny,
.…camera angles and lens perspective are deceiving. He does have his butt off to the left of center and because of his body size and height, may have his right leg against the tank. ….but, I agree, a little training may be indicated here.
Many riders cornering like this who see others, pictures or videos, get the knee out because it is easy and perhaps looks dramatic. Fact is most of the weight change comes from the butt, upper torso and shoulders. Actually the knee out doesn’t add that much more and usually isn’t necessary if you get your body out there. The knee can make a good feeler and it is easier for the beginner to weight the peg. And, while we are at it some other common errors, how about that head….need more chin up, more nose turned into the turn and more eyes level. Again, camera angles are deceiving, but if he is looking into the turn, it appears he is looking out of the corner of his eye.
When the head and shoulders go off center into the turn they guide/pull the front tire around the turn like a magnet….when the butt goes off center into the turn, it leads/pulls the rear of the bike through the turn. All this body lean and leading isn’t normally necessary, but to get the maximum turn at the maximum speed before the traction runs out, body weight into the turn is the answer. Course I'm not the one to favor reaching for the max on the street....better left on the track, but can't say I haven't been there a time or two.

but you are ignoring the fact that for a lot of people the goal isn't efficient cornering - the goal is to get the knee to the ground cause it looks so dang
k3wl ;)
who knows? people do weird things when there's a camera around.

Truth is, he was working on it, we all have to start somewhere. Hey, the goldwinger ain't hanging off his bike!
I have a friend who owns a dealership in Victoria Tx. He tells me that when Honda made the big change to the goldwing years back there was promotional video sent out to the dealers showing a GP pilot on a wing in EU and when he was finished riding the track, there were holes in the pipes and bags. Finished off the ride in the video with a power slide up to the camera. He said he would try and locate a tape.
Oh and I have not yet managed to scrap a peg on my 04! I still like to ride it!
