I'm betting he applied too much rear brake. It looks like the rear wheel momentarily locked up, started to slide and he panicked.

Maybe his next bike will have linked brakes and/or ABS.......

Either he like you said, applied too much rear brake, or downshifted hard. At any rate, looks like he was trying to compensate for an overcooked corner.

If he thought that corner was overcooked he doesn't know about pushing harder and leaning further to compensate. It appears the corner was a wide sweeper and he was at the outer edge of the lane. He had plenty of room (it appears) to lean further into that turn and that sportbike looked like it could handle much more lean than was applied.

It's too late if you have to hit the brakes or try to downshift when you find the corner's overcooked. Pushing harder on the inside handlebar and leaning further into the turn has gotten me out of trouble many times that had I applied the brakes would have caused a crash.

I agree; hard counter-weighting is the quickest and IMHO, the safest way to deal with too much speed in a turn

What a scary situation to find oneself to be in. This jockey had to know his partner was somewhere beside him filming all this, huh? It looks like he gave him enough room to the left to turn, but "you'll run out of b###s before you run out of tire as they say. maybe this guy was: 1)rookie 2)new ride and unfamiliar with performance ability3)unfamiliar with road4)caught up in the moment5)lack of preventive riding maintenance-dont learn how to ride a motorcycle for God's sake on the road!!!!!!!!!!!! looks like he tryed the ol' outrigger trick from the dirt-that ain't no 125 husky!

Know your ride;Know your road;Know you!!

I'm not sure what's on the other side of that wall but it looks like he should be glad he didn't go over. I'm guessing he came out ok but I doubt the same can be said about his ride.

That sure made for some good video. I'm thinking that wasn't their plan.

Fascinating lesson in what not to do. I know I'm trying to learn to get my speed and gear right before the turn, so I don't have to try and adjust late. Looks like a novice, from a still-relearning one. It's hard to trust the bike and just shove that handlebar down to the road, but that's what works best. This guy put his left foot down (see another thread on that), guaranteeing he's not going to go the direction he needs to. Note to self: don't do this.

We have the longer version of that video on our site.

Notice that he made the mistake of putting his foot down. Once he did that he lost the ability for his body to respond to what was going on and to actually control the bike. One word, PANIC!

That back tire shook right as he started to lean. I wonder if there was a problem with that rear tire...

He got into the loose stuff at the side of the road, if you see the entire video he is constantly running wide and playing to the camera, not paying attention to riding safely.
