My local Honda dealer says that the valves need to be adjusted at the 600 mile service. Is this really true? What other services are supposed to be done at 600 miles (I've already changed oil, filter, and final drive oil).
Thanks,
Walt
Your local dealer is confused!

And if he's confused about the 600 mile service you can just bet he's not the one I'd have working on our ST1100 or ST1300.

Well your dealer is either confused, incompetent, or a crook depending on which one you identify them as may lead you to take your bike elsewhere.

Ride, Ride far away ..... from that dealer. 600 mile check. do yourself, Change oil and filter, check bike over for loose bolts, some have been reported on the triple clamps. Did this dealer put the bike togeather at delivery? If it aint broke don't fix it. First valve check is 16k. Make sure you do it. Buy a service manual.:03biker:

Thanks for the input. I did not buy from this dealer though he has done work for me on other bikes. I do have the service manual but could not find the 600 mile check list, but perhaps I missed it. Is it in there?
I will be calling the dealer I bought it from again. He is 150+ miles away so I am hoping the local shop could do it. Wonder what he'll say when I call him back?

'your manual must have a misprint...'
'I was talking about the blue ST's...'
'I was talking about the red ST's...'
'I was talking about the silver ST's...'

Umm.. when I do call him back, I'll refer him to this site!
I DID tell the shop it was a 2005 but I forgot to tell him it was red!

Just and FYI -- when I called my local dealer's service about why he says the valve check and adjustment are needed at 600k, and referred him tot he service manual, he verified again that it is needed. But it turned out he was looking at the VTX 1300 maintenance schedule.
So he's probably ok. Just make sure the pictures actually match the bike.
