Howdy,

This is my first post here. I have been a road racer kinda dude for the last 10 years, but sold the toys and purchased a '94 ST 1100. This site seems really nice and polite.

Here's the deal: I'm making a road trip from Ft. Liquordale to Alabama to visit some friends (Union Springs/Montgomery area). We will be hooking up for several day trips from Union Springs to somewhere. Does anyone know of any good riding within 150-200 miles of the area?

Also, I will be departing there and taking a 4-5 day trip somewhere before heading home. I don't really have a plan as I'm a seat of the pants kind of dude. Any suggestions for nice places to ride would be appreciated.

Thanks for any input!

Cheers,
Jamie

I live in Auburn and I so going to Union Springs will be lots of two lane back roads for you. Not much (any) traffic for the most part. The county and state patrols are nice as long you keep it with in reason. +/- 10MPH or so. I don't know what kind of ride you are looking for but they have a very "cool" "pun intended" state park in the area. Blue Springs State Park 2595 Hwy. 10 Cilio, AL 36017 is on your way to Union Springs with a year round water tempature of 50 degrees. I have stopped there for a picnic with my daughter several times on my way to Fort Rucker. Lots of back roads driving thru rual farm country. Anyways hope this helps.

Sorry, I haven't been to Cheaha Park yet but if you are going up that way I have been to Callaway Gardens & Pine Mountain GA a few times. It is a nice ride also.

Cheaha is about the only 'good' riding in Alabama. I've attached a map of a 'must do' road. Take 49 North out of Lineville to 281. Turn right (away from Cheaha) and take 281 to Cleburne... Then turn around and go back to Cheaha and take 281 the other way... You won't regret it! Another good road is Hwy 25 North out of Vincent (along the way, you'll pass a place called '29 dreams (http://www.29dreams.com)' - you should stop in if they are open) until it hits Hwy 78 in Leeds. Better roads further north, but you kind of put a limit on mileage... :) Have fun!!! :D

Kevin,

Thanks for the info about Pine Mountain and Callaway Gardens. I'll plan on making a day for that area.

Chip,

The Jpeg of the map is great. Thanks for the info!

Cheers,
Jamie

Oh, yeah.... I forgot to mention Barber in Leeds... That's where I had you headed... :) Sorry 'bout that... But with this list, little over-sights like that rarely go un-corrected... :D
