Saturday, in Barett Junction, CA, we met up
"with a man name o Jim, and he rides on an FZ1" (deeply sorry, Gordon Lightfoot).
2006 FZ1.
This bike has taken a horrible bashing at the hands of the MC Press. Every current mag has a non flattering article about this bike. Particularly the fuel injection.
I didn't get to ride this bike, but I got to ride fairly close behind for a couple of times. Short times. The third rider was my buddy Ray, on his Hyabusa. He rode with him the whole way. Says it looked to him like it didn't quite have 'busa speed and reaction, but close.
Jim says that the FI is spot on, smooth and seamless. His reaction is all good. His only ***** is the cheap tail section, so flimsy, I could see his turn signals bouncing at road speed. He, too, has read the articles, and doesn't understand. His other bike is an '03 Road King (2 up riding) says he has been riding for about 20 years.
There is no doubt this is a great looking MC. This pic was taken in Julian and really doesn't do it justice. And I never got a decent pic of the back end. It looks ok sitting still, but looks really cheap on the road. Looks like a not a bad, lightning fast, 1 liter bike. Under $10,000 OTD. Anyway, first one I've seen on the road, first chance to talk to a rider. Maybe the MC Press had 'pre production' bikes with a jumpy FI system?
