I posted this the other day and didn't get a response. I thought I'd try again...

I got my "Ultimate Evaporative Cooling Vest" from www.Ride Cool.com (http://www.ride%20cool.com/) earlier this week. As I stated before, I have absolutely no experience with these things. The first thing I noticed was that after I got it wet, it felt "slimy".

For those who know, is this the way it's going to feel all the time, or just until it gets "broke in"?

Thanks,

Elmo

I couldnt imagine something like that working in such a humid part of the country like you (and I) live in. Normally, evaporative cooling only works in very low humidity.

I don't know about your specific vest. I hang my MiraCool for a half hour or so before I wear it, let it drip out completly. Slimy and cool isn't near as bad as dry and cooked.

I think it'll work in pretty high humidity, too, as it acts like sweat. You end up with evaporative cooling off your skin...

maybe, but probably not too good if the humidity gets above 30 per cent or so. At least that's the point here in Bakersfield where sweat stops evaporating (like today, darnit)

I think I've had one of mine feel slimey for 1 or 2 uses.
Theory: some of the water holding fibers stuck on the outside of the vest when it was made...
Try rinsing it off in a bucket of water...

I called the lady at Ride Cool (where I got the vest), and she told me that she had maybe seen 2 or 3 of them do that over the past 2 or 3 years.

After our discussion, I'm going to "wash" it in mild detergent and see what happens. She said if that doesn't work, she'll be glad to take it back and replace it with another one. Can't argue with that... :o:
