I picked a prefect weekend to get away from the Seattle area with temps in the 90's there and high 60's on the coast. Rode 300 miles to Lincoln City Oregon through temps reaching 92 degrees. My Alpinestar boots have been bothering my Achilles tendonitis so I'm trying some watherproof ankle high hiking boots. Starting the ride with temp around 64 I noticed heat on my ankles which I never felt with the Alpinestars. I was expecting to feel some real heat as the temp climbed. Much to my surprise the feeling of heat on my ankles went away as the temperature climbed. With temperature at 92 I felt no discomfort at all. Sure it was hot out, but it felt hot all over, and nothing uncomfortable at all. So the new boots will proably be fine even in temps in the 100+ range.

I have recently got a pair of Sidi Strada air boots. They are vented. With my Alpinestars Effex boots the bottoms of my feet could get overheated and thus sore. Lets face it, a leather Goretex boot is not going to breath very well. I wondered if anyone made vented boots that can let some air get inside. I only found Sidi and I noticed some posts from our Arizona and Vegas brothers who also had these boots so I decided to give them a try. Well everyone was out of stock last year until October so I had to wait the winter. I tested the boots in early spring to see what temps I could push them in down to with heavier socks. Got cold feet. Had my first hot run, 95F, this weekend and wore thin coolmax socks and you can feel the air in the boot. I sized the boot roomy so that air could circulate. With your feet on the pegs you have to dip your tones down a little to get a strong breeze in the boot. How nice it is.
