Has anyone ever blown a rear shock? If so how do you know? Reason for question - simple while taking her off the center stand I heard a rush of air from somehere, naturally I assumed the tire landed on a nail or similar object. Checked the tire inflation and performed a visual inspection but nothing there. Then I sat on the wonderful lady and she sank down like never before...Long story short I have been playing with the adjustments and neither the spring or the rebound seems to have any effect on the squat distance when I am on it. Any thoughts?

Maybe its my imagination......Maybe its too many car fumes from riding in town...

I've yet to hear of this but it sure sounds like what happened.. How old is the bike? Warranty issue?

run your fingers around the seals/ bottom shaft to check for oil

Time to take it back to the dealer... it had to have a bad one to begin with, it that is truly the problem... Taking it off the centerstand should never blow a shock seal... do what mongo said to check for oil but either way... it's dealer time.

A blown shock seal wouldn't make the bike sink down any lower than usual though, it's the spring that keeps it up....
More likely the hydraulic remote preload thingamajob?

Apparently, According to the dealer I somehow lost pressure in the shock and it was allowing only the spring to be effective.....I skeptical but the dealer covered it under warranty and it seems ok now....

Strangenst thing Id ever seen on a bike

No blown shock but I did "bottom out" yesterday for the first time. Hit an pretty good size unexpected bump while riding two-up. I'm sure it wasn't good for it. Is "bottoming out" that common with the ST?

I got a new one and Honda paid for it as this is a covered item....apparently there is a cap cover on the thing that should never be taken off as it may come loose and allow the precharge to release. I never took mine off so I can only assume they did it during initial assembly at the dealer.....Don't know if there is any truth to it but thats what my tech said
