Question for everyone?

What problems has anyone had or having with their bikes. We are trying to address the issue with a battery problem on one of our bikes. We have had 2 clutches burn up on 2 of our bikes. one with 700 miles and the most recent one with 1100 miles.

I have got 2300 miles on my bike and have not had a problem with anything. The 2 bikes with clutch issues went through our week long transition school with low miles on them and didnt have a problem. We all rode our bikes pretty easy through the school . The clutches started to slip, then went out real quick. This all happened about 2 months after we did our week long training.

I have heard the Honda clutches are not as durable as the Kaw or Harley, and also it has a lot to do with the individual rider. I spoke with Dave Oventhal with Honda USA the other day to find out if anyone else has had any problems. He was shocked to hear about our bikes burning up the clutches at such low miles. He advised that the Honda's 1st gear is taller than the Kaw/Harley and the clutch doesnt need to be feathered that much when taking it throught the cone patterns.

Any thoughts/comments would be welcomed. Thanks

Hey, I'm very surprised to hear about the clutch issues. I have 36,000 on mine, and no clutch problems. I'm pretty hard on the clutch (as far as feathering), and when I'm going after a speeder, I'll speed shift so that I can do other things with my left hand. When I speed shift, I notice some slippage, but it hooks up and off I go. There haven't been any residual problems from it.

As for the batteries, I had a lot of problems with my stock battery. I finally convinced the bosses to let me buy a deep cell gel battery, and that has taken care of the problems.

Please keep us informed of what you find out. Also, have you tried going to a synthetic oil? The guys in the civilian area seem to like the way it handles the stresses of the clutch...
