The three banditos (keyweSTwego, STwannabe, and astrogt) are planning our FIRST SS1000 all on ST1100's with no Givis. This is something we have been talking about for many months and have committed to doing it this year.

Now the planning comes in, but we are having trouble getting real mileage off of Map Quest. Our route will take us from Marion, NC(I40) to I77 (statesville, nc) to Charleston, WV (I64), to Lexington, KY (I64), to Louisville, KY (I64 to I265) onto I65, south to Nashville, TN (around the bypass-155) to I40, through Knoxville (I40) and back into Marion, NC on I40.

Our problem is when we enter an intersection, MapQuest takes us off the interstate. How do we (or what do we enter) to keep our route on the interstate from point to point? We couldn't even get MapQuest to accept the intersection of I65 and hwy. 155 in Nashville (?) It kept taking us through the middle of Nashville (and we don't want that).

Any help will be greatly appreciated in this, our first attempt.

Oh, what is your typical tank mileage? I am guessing 292 at 40mpg to be conservative. We are thinking about stopping between the 250 and 275 range just for safety. Any thoughts? Thanks guys!!!

Sorry, can't help you out with Map Quest, but I can tell you that your route, leaving from I-40 and Hwy 221, will take you 1,027 miles (per my Garmin Map Source).

As far as the stops, bear in mind that you will need to stop for gas at every turn in your route, even if you don't need gas. On the other hand, if you don't want gas, you could buy something to get the recepit. As for me, if I need to buy something to get the receipt, I'm gonna get gas at the sametime.

These miles are approximations;
Marion to Statesville 68 (get gas here)
to Charleston 290
Lexington 460
Louiseville 530
Nasheville 705
Knoxville 880
Marion 1027

When you are plotting your route click on the road just past the off ramp. Make sure you are zoomed in enough so you can clearly see the proper location. This will also work when you are doing back roads and the route tool finds a road you don't see or one you don't want to take. Jusy click past that road to continue on the path you desire.

Here's your trip in Streets and Trips. I find doing it online is too much of a PITA. S&T is $40 and I use it all the time. I know this isn't answering your question directly but I thought I would include something else that verifies your mileage.

About 1030 miles and remember to get gas close to your corners. Good luck with the ride. Ride safe.

I like Streets and Trips too. You can adjust your speeds, your gas stops will show automatically, and you can even program into your stops a 15/30/ minute whatever break at each stop.

Its fun to do all the routes over the winter and when its time to ride, all the routes can be printed.

I've been using this a lot lately. To force it to use interstates just add a waypoint that is on the interstate.
