View Full Version : After Market Horn of Choice
I'd like to do a poll on which after market horns are the most popular. Throw me out a few brands and we'll go from there.

I think the Stebel Compact Nautilus is going to be the most popular by far. That is what I am installing as soon as I build in by auxiliary power infrastructure (fuse block, relay, outlets, etc.)

Same here and it fits the ST1300 perfectly under the right side fairing.

You got it...I did notice that the little nylon strap that holds the mirror on in case it falls off it's mounts won't go into the notched hole once I put the Stebel in..I made it work another way.
Now, if I can figure out how to mount a Grover Stuttertone in there..heheheheh

What about for the ST1100?
My short list of planned farkles for the '91 include a horn upgrade, GPS, MP3 (if not in the GPS), radar detector mount, plus whatever is needed to wire up these things in a usable way.

I have a long standing appreciation for the metal horns that Sears used to sell. And I had a friend some years back that had some brushed stainless steel horns from Hella.
Based on a college course I took on materials in acoustical instruments, a metal horn will have a more brilliant (and piercing) sound to it. I have one set of airhorns with plastic bells, but they reinforce my beliefs and you never see a plastic trumpet in a marching band. (Sousaphones and tubas are lower frequency.)
Besides, I'm keeping the Sears airhorns when I sell the truck. I've had them for 30 years. Why pay the same price for something cheaper?

+2 for the Stebel Compact Nautilus... kind of.
At Harbor Freight I found a Stebel Compact Nautilus horn, only it was packaged and branded as Bolo. Same horn, made in Italy, a few bucks cheaper, and I could walk out the door with it instead of having to place an order. (Important to those of who require/demand instant gratification.)
I mounted mine using a larger bolt/nut where the stock horn goes, and then cut the inside cowl (the black one facing the tire) to accommodate the larger size. This has the advantage of placing the horn opening outside the fairing.
