Here's a good one...
I've just purchased my new ST1300 at the dealer three days ago. The day I got it home from the dealer I took off the seat and checked the tool bag, being a newbie ST owner that was my first thought. I found it, opened it and found in it one allen wrench! Yep! One allen wrench... OK... So what the heck!? Next day I go into the dealer and told him what I found and showed him the bag with the one allen wrench. He said, now get this, he said that is how Honda is delivery their bikes to the dealers; missing tools. Well why is that I ask? Because they don't want you working on them! Oh! I said well that sounds like a lot of BS bud! And I showed him the Ron Ayers printout of the bike's parts list showing the tools and the tool bag. He stumped. OK. I said I will be calling Honda and telling them about this and left. A few hours later I get a call from the dealer and he said they had ordered a tool kit from Honda for me and I'll get it next Thursday. I said you're darn tootin' I will!
Ever heard of this before?  :(

Welcome to the fold! I was as surprised as you when I picked up my 06 in February! The 06 tool kit has been a source of banter since then!
My 06 came sans tools. It sure give me lots more confdence that nothing will go wrong, go wrong, go wrong.

I got my toolkit yesterday. I just went down two days after buying the bike and asked politely if I could have one. They ordered it and it was there when I took the bike in for it's 600 mile first service.
I have a toolkit that is far and away better than what Honda supplies but it was the principle of the thing with me. If I'm gonna pay 17k (warrenty, pre-paid maint.) then there outta be a tookit, right? ;-)

That is exactly how I explained it the sales manager too! And yeah, their ordering me one too. I agree that the Honda supplied tool kit is sub-standard, but again I agree "it's the principle"! I got my ST (non-abs) for $14.1k out the door. That's a year salary for some people! I'm still going to write Honda and lodge a opinion on the dumb idea! I carry a Cruztool toolkit. Much nicer! Well thanks for filling me in on it. I thought the dealer was stealin' 'em and sellin' 'em! LOL.

When I went in to the dealer today to have my ST's 600 mile service done the salesguy came up to me and handed me a ST toolkit they had ordered for me. Now that's classy! I thanked him and told him how disappointed I was in Honda leaving it out for the '06 model. He agreed. The dealer is Escondido Cycle Center in California. I recommend them!
When I bought my new Harley last year, it, nor any other Harley MC, came with a tool kit. Now in my opinion, if ANY MC needs a tool kit it would be the Harley!:bow1:
Maybe they don't want to be responsible for tools rattling off the bike going down the road.
Also, do you have any idea how much they could charge for tools with HD on them?

Good point, Ray. When you consider how much it costs for Harley logo pot holders, toilet tank covers, Valentine cards, pencils, compact disc cases, baby onesies, Live To Ride doormats, checkbook covers, navel studs, cell phone face plates, mouse pads, miniature grandfather clocks, bra/thong exotic dancer clubwear, pool cue racks, and fringe leather tool bags, it boggles the mind how much it would cost for HD logo tools.

When I purchased my 06, the dealer started to show me the tool kit, and he was as shocked as I was when all he pulled out was the allen and foam. Be happy, some didnt even get the piece of foam.

Since my dealer supplied me with a new, complete toolkit, I have no use for the "kit" that came with my '06. Anyone who did not get the piece of foam may purchase mine.
$15.00, OTD.
A deal! I had to pay 17k+ to get it.

Wiping up the sweat when you blow a tire in the middle of the desert....also doubles as a pillow....or maybe extra seat cushion...
really the uses are endless....let your imagination run wild
It's Actually A Silencer So The Allen Wrench Doesnt Rattle.

Same reaction as my sales guy :D

lol. I always thought there was some complicated technical purpose for the piece of foam-- never thought it was to insulate the sound. Makes sense though.
However, on the extensive tool kit that I got with my 04, there are more tools to rattle around, and I got NO FOAM. HEY, I GOT RIPPED OFF !!!
I demand my foam from Mother Honda.

We've given the 06's tool kit a pretty good trouncing, but the July/August issue of the HRCA pub "RedRider" has the explanation, in part, "The number of tools in the tool kit for some 2006 models has been reduced, or the tools are now optional. This is due to factors such as high Honda reliability, more fuel-injection models, and reduced vehicle service/maintenance needs...."

LOL, sounds like the party line. If that statement were indeed true, the tool kit would include:
A 6mm wrench for hose clamp tightening
One or two spare thermostats and tstat housing o-rings
The TT FPR, and a screw extractor kit complete with two spare air housing phillips head screws
A mity-vac for the linked-brakes
One box of each type trim-clip

Well, golly gee whiz! If the bikes are supposed to be faster and lighter with the "new" tool kit, mine should be faster and lighter still, 'cause I did not get a tool kit!

I just got my Honda Club mag too and saw the article. I don't know what to really think about that!? Here's a tip though; if you bought a '06 ST ask the dealer to have Honda send you a tool kit (I guess its from the '05 model) and they will at no charge.
I thought the dealer was stealin' 'em and sellin' 'em! LOL.
He must be one heck of a salesman! LOL!!

My dealer was kind enough to give me the upgraded deluxe toolkit with some Honda leatherman like pliers as well as the standard foam and allen wrench kit...no charge

Glad I'm not the only one without a toolkit (what the heck's that single hex wrench for anyway?). Anyone know of a kit you can buy that'll still fit under the seat and has most of the most commonly used gizmo's? I don't really want to piece one together myself, if possible. Thanks.

Hello, I did not get one with my 06ST or my 07CBR. I was told by the dealer the Honda's bikes a so reliable that they will no longer put on the bikes, besides that there is not to much in the kit that will help you when you break down. Honda also made mention of it in one of their past issues of ride rider giving the reason for not putting tool kits in their bikes anymore. However I did order one and recieved it free of charge. My 2005 St1300 came without a tool kit. So I asked the dealer to order one and they could not find a way to order a complete tool kit.
Piece by piece the price quoted was $86 so I gave up on that approach and assembled a kit from Sears tools.
The dealer swears that no tool kits come with new bikes and I checked under the seats of all the STs in the showroom and there are no tool kits there. So the stealer is stealing them?

The allen wrench is provided so you can access the battery. Don't know why they considered it the weak link.

The last year to have a full tool kit was 2005. After that it was allen wrenches and wonder foam.
Besides, what could a dealer possibly want with a vinyl bag full of crappy tools?

yes one allen wrench on mine also - BMW has the most complete tool kit on the K1200gt - gold wings used to come with a leather wrapped tool kit with all honda tools - more money now for bikes and no tools- hummm

My dealer was nice enough to order one and give it to me, i promptly replaced just about everything except for the spark plug wrench with higher quality tools. What crap,:07biker: but beggars can't be choosers.

Cars came with tools once but they got reliable. Honda decided that their bikes are now relaible enough that any failure would need a tow truck not a tool kit. You need the allen key to get at the battery if you need a boost or blow a fuse so they give you that.
