Planning a trip from Fort Worth to Glacier Nat'l Park and back in early September.

Our schedule is tentatively as follows. If anyone plans to be in those areas on those dates, let me know and we will try to meet and say "hello" and exchange a few riding stories.

Friday, 9/1 Ft.Worth to Taos, NM
Saturday, 9/2 Taos to Ouray, CO
Sunday, 9/3 Ouray to near Park City, UT (haven't nailed down exactly where yet)
Monday, 9/4 Park City to Idaho Falls, ID
Tuesday, 9/5 Idaho Falls to Kalispell, MT
Wednesday, 9/6 Tour Glacier Park (relax, need an off day)
Thursday, 9/7 Glacier to Gardiner, MT
Friday, 9/8 Gardiner to Steamboat Springs, CO
Saturday, 9/9 Steamboat to Poncha Springs, CO
Sunday, 9/10 Poncha Springs to Fort Worth (a long ride home)

This trip covers a little over 4,000 miles in ten days. Do you think that's too much distance to cover and doesn't allow time to see and enjoy the surroundings? I plan to try and take a good number to photos to put on my website.

Thanks,
Robert

You're just gonna miss WeSTOC...

400 miles/day okay if it's okay with you.. some would do 1,000 and some would do 200.. just depends on you and who you're traveling with.

I always make agressive plans with the understanding that we stop when we get tired or just want to stop and maybe take some time to check out the surroundings.

How many are going.. the bigger issue will be if everyone rides with the same attitude towards the trip..

It's just the two of us, myself and my son. We've done a trip similar to this when we were riding Harleys. I figure it will be easier on the touring bikes.

Thanks,
Robert

I do not think that is too much distance to cover in 10 days.

Yea, I really not concerned with riding the 400+ miles per day, I'm just wondering if we won't have enough time to see the sights.

That kinda depends on what 'see the sights' means. Hiking, taking tour rides, visiting museums?

If you budget your time and assume 3-3 1/2 hrs per 200 miles then you've got a 7 hour ride day.

That still leaves you a minimum of 8 hrs of sight seeing. If you're just talking about pulling off at a scenic area and having a 'moment of contemplation' then I think you're got more than enough time...

You won't know 'til you do it, some places you zip through without thinking and others you can hardly believe all the sights. I wouldn't worry about it much, do as much as you feel like you want to do and either catch up the next day or just take your time. Life's too short and you and your son will appreciate this time/trip together for the rest of your life.

Great points, thanks. After all it is supposed to be a vacation. We'll just play it by ear and do whatever comes to mind, like you say.

Thanks again
Robert

I hope to update my website with alot of photos and comments on the trip as soon as we get back. Realistically, it'll take a few days, but hopefully it will be enjoyable.

Thanks,
Robert
