Has anybody tried both Thermasilk (http://www.campmor.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=39157719&memberId=12500226) and Capilene (http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&productId=47808813&parent_category_rn=4501408&vcat=REI_SEARCH)? Which one did you like better? Why?

I am purchasing tops and bottoms for my wife and me. Bare skin in a down sleeping bag just doesn't hack it, and it would double nicely for thermal insulation while riding. Plus, that midnite run from the tent to the restroom can be a bit quicker for the modesty inclined.

My experience (winter hiking in goretex flyfishing waders) has been that when used as "active" wear, in a sustained aerobic state, the capilene breaths better = more comfy & warmer. Not sure how the two compare as insulation in a more "static" state though... for that I tend to favor heavy bergelene and mid wt thermax.

Dorian,

I don't think I would want to wear Mid-weight in a down bag... I get too warm.
Check the REI light-weight MTS stuff.
I use it under my mesh pants in the summer and winter and when the weather is cold I wear it under my jeans.
