I have a friend at Molex, and if anyone knows a manufacturer name, or a manufacturers model number for the electrical connectors we need, I am going to get a crapload of them and offer them at cost to the members here.
I know some people have to make a buck but, sheee*t, almost 6 bucks for a 9 pin Hitachi style?
That's some BS!
Also know a cable manufacturer here near Romeoville, and MIGHT just hand him a quartet harness and see if he can make them cheaper as well.
Any other connector/cabling things you want?
Jeff
"Official Cheap *******" (AND I have a certification card to prove that!)
Sorry, dunno who actually makes them, but it's most likely a Japanese company, and I think they are used by other manufacturers besides Honda. They are definitely available cheaper than EC and the like (I've provided all of the sources for these connectors that I know of before--do a search), as the 10-pack of 2-6-pole connectors sold by Louis.de is only EUR10. Your next-best bet is probably eBay for used wiring harnesses, though you'd still have to get new pins. I've purchased just a bag of new pins from EC before, which wasn't too expensive, but at that time they hadn't really fixed the price for just pins--they may have by now, and it could now be expensive! Good luck.

I have tried to track that info down myself with no luck. I agree that the prices charged are way high - I'd just like to find out who their source for supply is.

The folks at MC/Cruz (Australia) seem to have firgured out the connectors as their unit comes with the correct connectors to insert into the stock harness. Maybe they'd be willing to share their info.
Sorry, I have no address for'em, but Google can prolly solve that.
Good luck,

The problem you are having in locating these is the same one I was having trying to track down wheel weights. I found the manufacture of the weight I wanted but they don't sell to the public. I was given the name of a local shop that deals with their product but they didn't carry that particular weight and wanted to charge me the regular price PLUS shipping because they said it would be a special order.
You're dealing with a part that has limited demand so we only have limited sources.

I have the bag that the came in in the garage, I will look later.
They should be about $0.03 each or so if you buy 10,000 at a time.
Jeff, now that you've tackled the Hitachi connector conundrum, perhaps you can look into finding a source for Honda bullet connectors... They are not the same size as the usual aftermarket bullets (which can be more or less made to work, but aren't right). May the Force be with you...

....mmmmaybe?
Can't tell without measuring (I think the ones Honda uses are 3mm OD) or testing them, but "Yazaki" is a likely manufacturer: "Eighty-five percent of Yazaki’s annual sales were in the automotive sector. We are already the world’s largest manufacturer of wire harnesses and our next goal is to become the world’s largest automotive parts supplier.
• One in three vehicles worldwide has a Yazaki wire harness.
• Half of the vehicles worldwide have a Yazaki component."
We have been assimilated!
Ciao,
Some measurements from today's quality time in the garage:
Honda bullets are 3.5mm O.D.
Aftermarket bullets are 3.9mm O.D.
SAE (trailer plug) connectors incorporate bullets that are 4.5mm O.D.
My money is on Yazaki being the manufacturer of both the "Hitachi" connectors as well as the Honda bullets, but I can't confirm that.

Hi, Jeff,
I wish you all the luck in the world. I deal with Integrated Circuits on a daily basis, and Hitachi is a problem. Several years ago Hitachi merged with Mitsubishi, and created Renesas. Apparently there is not one single employee left from before the merger. Nobody has any memory of any part before that time. Any time I go looking for a datasheet on an IC, there is a small chance I will get it.
Whatever you do, try to get drawings on your parts. It will make it much easier when you need to get another supplier.
