After riding about a week on my new 1300, I could not get a smooth or consistent response in acceleration. After reading about Tom' regulator, I am assuming that purchasing his device would solve the problem. Correct?

Assuming I get one. I am not a wrench guy. Would you trust a tech at a Honda shop or go to a tuner/bike shop and how much do you think it would cost to install.

Thanks for your advice.

It isn't a very difficult installation but it takes about 1 hour.

I would suggest finding another ST rider in your area to give you hand with the installation. That would likely be your best bet and only cost you a burger and root beer.

Mike,
Contact "Firehawk"
He is located in Elgin.
We ride together all the time.
He can certainly give a pointer or two.

It may help, but after 15K with no FPR, I fall firmly into the camp that believes it can be improved significantly through throttle cable adjustment, good use of the friction zone and improvement of right hand technique.

What were you riding before?

I found that after adding the MCL handlebar risers and getting the weight off my wrist, I no longer had the jerky throttle problem. Not necessarily a solution for you, but it worked for me!

Give yourself 10k on the bike before you do it. That's just my opinion but my reasoning is to give yourself ample time to adjust to the feel and operation of the ST before making changes. If, at 10k, it's still an issue, then install it and see if it helps.

try increasing your idle speed to at least 1100 rpm if it is already at that adjust it a bit at a time until it feels good for you. I too was thinking about Turbo Toms Fuel Regulator but it 's far too expensive to get it delivered to the U.K. Turbo Tom wants $150. to include the postage. regards Keith

This was one farkle that I thought I would have to have, but after 5 1/2 months and 11,000+ miles, I'm OK without it.

I have to agree with Elmo on this. I initially had to get used to the throttle response becuase I was finding it a bit 'jerky'. Really what it was was two things: My heavy handedness (being used to carburetor systems) and the throttle cable being slightly too tight. After about 5K everything seems to have solved itself. You just get used to it.

Put me in the "don't need it" camp.
