Hello fellow ST riders,

I have a question to pose to all of you who:

(1) Have a Hondaline Topbox installed and,
(2) Occasionally have a passenger ride with you.

My question is, is it OK to actually use the backrest? Is it safe? I know that it gives off a feeling of security to have it there for the passenger. My son rides with me occasionally and he usually rides "bear-hug" style with his arms around me and fingers interlocked.

Recently he has begun sitting back on the backrest and clasping the silver grab handles on each side of the seat. He switches back and forth throughout our ride. Is this advisable? Dangerous? I'd like to hear your opinions. Is the Topbox really made to support weight like this?

Have an '04 with the Hondaline trunk.... Heck, the wife even sleep's while
riding.... She loves the extra "security" that the back rest gives her..

I've had the topbox for about 2 years now. and I've done an unanticipated wheelie with 130 lbs of 15 year old son sitting back there, and nothing/nobody went off the back. Total of 6,000+ miles, twisties, cities, deserted country roads, etc, with assorted sons on the back, no problemo.

My vote: its safe.

I have an '03 with a Honda Top Case. My wife loves having iot there. Yes she leans back and enjoys the ride. I was worried after installing the box, but never had a problem with anybody leaning back against it.

Since I don't usually keep on the bike, I always double check to make sure the latches catch before she gets on.

Enjoy and don't worry
