View Full Version : Another dumb question
I ride with a Shoei X-11 and I was wondering if a 3/4 helmet/shield would be cooler in the heat or would my face just dry out excessively. Anyone out there with experience?
Hi Coop! I bought a KBC Tour Com 3/4 lid this year for when the full face gets too hot for me - like when it's above 85. Yeah, yeah I know we are heat wimps up here in the northeast :) I wear it on shorter rides and really like it. I don't have a shield on it right now, but it does have a visor to keep the sun out of my eyes which I like.
My face hasn't dried out (yet) but I do need some bigger sunglasses because my eyes do get dry. I even bought some Murine for the tank bag! :)
Coop,
I'm not sure about your humidity; but, I find that I am more comfortable on a hot day with my visor closed. Yes even when the temps is above 115F and I'm on a black asphalt section of road...

Coop got a buddy that I ride with, uses a open face, grows a beard before we head out for a trip. If he doesnt the wind and sun gives his face the lobster look, and no matter what his lips crack open and his nose blisters, rides a GL 1800,:biker:
I agree with Mark...however, at 115, I must crack my visor to get some air in....even if it is brutal hot.

Just some minor housekeeping. Moved this thread to a more appropriate forum. John

coop - i have the same helmet (vermulan replica) and i must say i prefer the visor closed (once moving) i actually find the venting in this helmet is the best i have experienced.

HOT sun, HOT tar, HOT air = shield down, visor down.
Hey don't forget, put some Orville Reddenbocker(sp) in the left console and you'll feel even better when you get to your destination.
Sorry! That popcorn story has he CRAKIN UP! Made my day!
