Cross poST from the ST liST server (from Whit):
===========================================

Things are coming along nicely.

Some of you may have noticed the change in the Rides page. They've
been linked over to Adam's page and everything is in one place
now...maps in different formats, SA, MS, etc., GPS routing data and a
few "Other" rides, like to Clearview Shields/Pine Valley Ranch Park.
Also, Coors and Red Rocks Park...both less than 7 miles from the
Marriott. Rod and Adam have done a great job!

A couple of the Rides have been changed to reflect better roads,
non-gravel, that were on the MadMaps maps. Much of the text, maps and
GPS routing has been modified to take you right out of, and return
to, the Marriott parking lot rather than some random places in the
Denver area as before.

Another tidbit from my Chief Prizes Elf, Steve Quiat: Seems the
Colorado Springs police have some ST1300P's highly farkled. They're
trying to find a way to put in an appearance and show them off, we've
offered a couple banquet bribes, oops, incentives. They'll be there
if they can.

WeSTOC XI is about 4 weeks away now. We have 171 registered, sold 160
shirts so far, booked over 100 rooms at the Marriott and they're
still trickling in today. Our local weather babe has guaranteed
daytime temps in the low to mid-80's and partly cloudy.

All info, shirt ordering, etc. is at Don's excellent website at:

http://www.stocrallies.com/westoc11/

I still have some of those maps left and there's time to get them back
to you.

They're two-sided, fold outs 19" x 27" full color both sides.
They show our front range from Fort Collins/Walden down to Woodland
Park/Fairplay and five color-coded rides in between making up about 80%
of the
rides we'd already planned on with mileage, directions, access,
biker-friendly restaurants, things to see, etc.

www.madmaps.com really does a good job on these for any that haven't
yet seen them. They've earned a coveted spot on our Sponsor's page.

Attendees at WeSTOC XI will find these little jewels in their package
upon check-in, along with a Colorado map, but I think I have enough
extra to mail to those that desire a preview and that send me a Self
Addressed Stamped Business-Sized envelope, typically 4-1/8" x 9-1/2".

Send to:

My first WeSTOC was incredible... I hated missing the one last year but I knew I couldn't do that two years in a row.

Can't wait to see everyone.. I may not even do any rides.. just walk around and talk... :D

If you don't ride the mountain rides you will be missing soo much. Take it from someone who has ridden all of the posted routes many times. I also will be doing an unoffical canyon tour of the canyons along Peak to Peak Highway. Up and down about 6 or so canyons. Starting with Golden Gate Canyon and ending up at Devil Glutch out of Estes Park, and then back the length of Peak to Peak. I have ridden all of them but never in one day. I just did Trail Ridge Road this past May. It has been a few years sence I was at the top of MT Evens so I will do that also. There will be enough time to talk in the evenings after the bikes are parked. I will be leaving Texass on the 1st of Sept at 0 dark 30 so I have a day or so to visit with my kids and granddaughters before WESTOC. See you there and make sure you

I've had really good luck over the years. TexSTOC, FallSTOC and WeSTOC I have roomed with other liSTers (I won't count EaSTOC cuz I was rooming with my wife!!! :D )

Only one time did I have a roomy that had a bit of a snoring problem. I didn't think I would ever get to sleep the firST night (maybe I didn't). The second night I did okay and the guy has turned out to be one of my beST friends.

Man, you guys are killing me! I want to go so bad I can taste it. Unfortunately, I have to work for a living and there are only so many vacation days in a year. Since I took a week off to go riding in June and the wife and I plan on taking a week in November to visit family, I just don’t have enough vacation time to go around! All the scheming and finagling in the world just won’t make those numbers do what I want.

Believe me when I say I know exactly who would be responsible for making the wrong decision in this instance. Somehow I don't think the excuse "Well Mellow said it was okay”, will generate the necessary acceptance of my plan to change our vacation destination.

I’ve already tried some misdirection, I have a niece that lives in Ft. Collins and I was telling my wife how her and her husband just bought a new home and we should pay them a visit (around WestSTOC time). But she saw right through me. Besides, it’s not her favorite niece (I’m staying as far away from that one as I can, definitely a no win situation for me).

No, I’ll just suck it up and read every post about how great it was and how you all missed us (the ones that didn’t or couldn’t make it).

Note to self:
1. Need to start planning vacations around STOC events.
2. See how big a diamond I can afford with gas prices the way they are.

Some ST riders went to a retreat in the mountains. To save money, they decided to sleep two to a room. No one wanted to room with Rod because he snored so badly. They decided it wasn't fair to make one of them stay with him the whole time, so they voted to take turns.

The first ST rider slept with Rod and comes to breakfast the next morning with his hair a mess and his eyes all bloodshot. They said, "Man, what happened to you?"

He said, "Rod snored so loudly, I just sat up and watched him all night."

The next night it was a different ST rider's turn. In the morning, same thing--hair all standing up, eyes all blood-shot. They said, "Man, what happened to you? You look awful!"

He said, "Man, that Rod! Shakes the roof. I watched him all night."

The third night was Whit's turn. Whit was a big guy; much bigger than Rod.

The next morning Whit came to breakfast bright eyed and bushy tailed.

"Good morning," he said. They couldn't believe it!

They said, "Man, what happened?"

He said, "Well, we got ready for bed. I went and tucked Rod into bed and kissed him good night. He sat up and watched me all night long."

Those of you who know me know why I am monitoring NOAA so close....

After my namesake petered out in the Gulf I started to get real Paranoid and now I find I am checking the Forcast every day:eek:

I dunno if I can stand another weather related abort.

So for tose who want to agonize along with me, here is todays tropical forcast courtesy of WeatherUnderground.com

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico...

A small low pressure area associated with a tropical wave iscentered about 650 miles east of the Windward Islands...and ismoving westward 15 to 20 mph. Thunderstorm activity has increasednear the low pressure center during the past few hours...and ifthis trend continues...a tropical depression could form latertonight or Wednesday.
A nearly stationary low pressure system is located about 750 milessouthwest of the Azores. Shower activity is minimal and furtherdevelopment is not anticipated.
A tropical wave interacting with an upper-level low is producingan area of cloudiness and showers over the Bahamas...the southernFlorida Peninsula...central Cuba...and adjacent waters. Upper-levelwinds are expected to remain unfavorable for any significantdevelopment of this system as it moves westward at 15 to 20 mph.
Elsewhere...tropical storm formation is not expected throughWednesday. Chris :06biker:

Dr. Jeff Masters is my new hero....:bow1: From WeatherUnderground.com

High wind shear and dry air continue to dominate the tropical Atlantic. There is a tropical wave about 500 miles east of the Lesser Antilles Island that has a surface circulation, but this wave is embedded in a very large area of dry air, and thunderstorm activity is presently very limited. The computer models are indicating the possiblity of some development off the coast of the Carolinas by Tuesday, but any storm here is likely to be a threat only to Bermuda. The long range 2-week GFS forecast calls for a continuation of the current pattern, with high wind shear remaining as a major deterrent to tropical cyclone formation until the end of August

He is Da Man.....

WESTOC planning is in full gear, I may even begin packing....(no wait...that is tempting fate too much...I'll just get out the bags...) I loaded the GPS with the routes today and started rating them for which ones would be the best for me. Another WeSTOC Update from Whit:

========================================

Looks like we ran up against our room block again. Actually they
guaranteed 100 rooms, you've already booked 110. I just talked to
Jennifer at our Marriott and they extended another 5 rooms at our $75
rate, otherwise they want $169.

So...anyone getting a bounce from their 800 number people try it again.

Also...25 miles north of our Marriott is the People's Republic of
Boulder. The national and international media has resumed their
obsession of the tragic Jon Benet Ramsey murder * and have booked
every room up there and the overflow is extending to our Marriott and
even into Denver. So if you're trying to refine your procrastional
prowess to the nth degree, as I've recommended twice before, I'd
recommend you make your reservation NOW.

*(IMHO...Karr didn't do it.)

If I counted correctly, it looks like 35 states and 4 Canadian Provinces will be represented...how cool is that! :bow1:

We could consider it 36 states as we have riders coming from southern CA and northern CA.

We could add more states if we counted each CA and AZ county as a state. Mohave County, AZ is larger than the three small "states" put together.

It's also larger than Isreal and Lebanon put together. That ought'a make some folks stop and think. What's up with calling these county sized pieces-o-real-estate Countries!! ;^)

Another WeSTOC Update from Whit.............

While doing name tags I'm surprised to find so many have paid and
still not Registered at:

http://www.stocrallies.com/westoc11/updateregdb.php

Dear hearts, this data base is where the info for the name tags comes
from.

So if you don't have a name tag in your spiffy check in package you
get to write your own.
