We've added a map for members to plot their location. Click the link in the welcome block at the top of the home page and you'll see the map. Or click the following link to go straight there...
http://www.st-owners.com/forums/vbgooglemapme.php
To add yourself to it, click the [Your Entry] link above the map and complete all the fields. Depending on how accurate you want to be with your placement, you can zoom into the map, switch to a photo satellite view etc. and then click to add yourself. You can click as many times as you like and edit the entry at a later date etc. It must be accurate because you can see Joe is located in the middle lane of a three lane juntion at a stop light :D
Please note that there might be a slight time delay up to 10 minutes before your marker appears on the map.
Have fun...

It keeps telling me I've left required blanks empty. You mean I *must* enter a URL for the marker? What do I put there?
Jamie
[edit]Ok.. I got it. No URL, but I had to enter a title... or one of those other ones.

The only two mandatory fields are the Marker Title and Marker Text. Make sure there's something in those and you should be good to go.
Both of these appear in the pop up balloon you see on clicking a marker.

Glad to see Charlotte's such a hotbed of ST activity. Markers sorta overlap each other unless you really zoom in though.

For those that are interested, I have added mine too. Look for that large mass almost below Burger. I'm at the bottom of that... All alone... That's me... Just sitting there... Sorry, no ST in picture.
P.S. In winter, it is a little browner, not much. The trees stay green, and the grass loses some of its green. Never totally brown.

I can see yours.. it's building the stuff on the fly and it's graphic images so sometimes it's gonna have issues, just try again and it should be okay. We haven't changed anything ... let us know if you still have issues.

Well the granularity did not quite let me get the precise spot in the garage but if I'm any judge it's less than 8 feet off based on the satellite pic of my house. Yes I know - way too anal :-)

I have disabled the ability for completely new users to put an entry on the map.
When you join the forum you are registered as a new user, after you have introduced yourself and made just two post contributions you are then promoted to a registered user at which time you can then add your marker to the map.
I hope most people will agree with this decision as it seems a little pointless having markers on the map when no one knows anything about you. Somehow it just seems against the sense of community.
Therefore, I've also removed a few markers that were put there already by people with no posts.
Thanks for your understanding,
Keith_UK

I agree.
They have the same set-up over on Adventure Rider (http://www.advrider.com/) site (34,620 inmates). The Members' Map is now so cluttered with marker pins that it seems to have a problem loading them all. Very cumbersome.
Wouldn't want to see that happen here; it defeats the object
Finally I can say, "I'm on the map"
Thank you Lord Burger

Can you make it so when you roll over a member pushpin, the name pops up right away instead of having to click on it?

Try it now. But don't be surprised if you don't like it so much. If you put your mouse over a pin and get the pop up, you have to close it if you want to go to a marker above the one you selected, or go to another marker below the one showing.
I think this is because of the shaddow they put around the pop up etc. and that's out of our control. I think it makes it more awkward, but try and it and let us know.

Yah, it is more akward, but I like how it works. It is too bad that the boxes won't go away once you roll off them.
Worth a shot anyway. Don't you ever sleep Dave?

Folks,
A number of people have added themselves to the map over the last weeks but not located their pin in the correct place (usually leaving it hanging in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico). In most cases, I've looked at their profile for their town and stuck their pin in the middle of that. However, this morning I had to delete a pin because the user had no location info on their profile.
Please just be aware that the map will not auto place your pin and you are required to do it yourself. It is easy to do and the instructions are clear when adding yourself.
Thanks,
ParkerBill

Hey, the map is way cool!! I just put myself on it in Parker, CO. Too bad only 250 of us have added our locations when I'm sure there are many, many more!!
There is another marker in CO that says Parker, but the marker is many miles away--guess he didn't zoom in like I did right to my location. Yeah, I'm a trusting person, but hey, if you can't trust a fellow ST'er, who can you trust??;) :D

Can't add myself to the map. I have looked at many threads regarding the maps and I cannot see any "tools" menu or any other way to modify the map. What am I doing wrong?
I had trouble too. All 3 blank areas have to be filled in.
To get my URL I had to go to the member list, find my entry and then copy and paste the URL ( although it sounds like any entry will work). My URL does not show when I go to my CP.
This is a really useful feature and I suspect the small number of entries is related to the need for a little more help with the instructions.
Burgher? (Hope you are not under 3 feet of water).

I just my user name in the title.
Then my real first name, and town in the text below.
I left the URL blank. But once you add yourself, your user name will automatically link to your forum profile.

Tried registering myself on the map but do not know what to put on the last 2 blanks (marker text & URL of image for the marker). My coordinates are 14.38N latitude and 121.0E longitude (Quezon City, Philippines).
For anyone that can help guide me through.... Thanks...
