Man, I'd love to go to this again. Last time it was William Webb that headed it up. Don't know what happened to 06, but if 07 sees it coming back again, count me in to come to it!
Chris
Anyone up for planning this? :STOC:
I don't remember had planned it in the past, pardon my ignorance and bad memory.
North Georgia is a great area to ride.. how about PeachSTOC?
Any takers?

NCSam has been hinting that I should try to pull it together, but I'm going to have to pass for '07, as I am already busy with many aspects of HSTA's "STAR" '07 National event. The 25th anniversary of STAR (Sport Touring Adventure Rendezvous) will be held in Asheville in June '07 just after the Honda Hoot.
Though not as intimate of an atmosphere as an EaSToc would be, I urge anyone dying to ride western NC twisteez to join the HSTA and attend STAR '07. You WON'T be disappointed. We'll have a multitude of routes layed out to choose from -so many you won't be able to do them all. The fun, the riding, and the commaraderie are 1st rate. And who knows, you might win a new VFR!
Here's a link to the HSTA site: http://www.ridehsta.com
Here's a link to the itinerary page from STAR '06 in Avon, CO that Sam and I attended: http://www.ridehsta.com/star/2006/schedule.html
The '07 special site is not up yet as details are still being finalized. When it is, I'll post a link.

Good info.. .maybe EaSTOC should butt up against that so people can possibly attend both..
I liked the ironhorse MC Campgrounds, nice.
I'm sure we'll find a volunteer... he he he

There doesn't seem to be anyone with the interest and time to organize an EaSTOC, but I can suggest an alternative: FriendSTOC
Takes place in the East, in the same range of mountains that prior EaSTOCs have (just a bit further north), great bunch of people, including international travellers this year) and it raises money for worthy causes in the ST family. A good time was had by all.
Here's some information about this year's (look at some of the archives if you reallly want a LOT of information):

No argument from me. But if there isn't an EaSTOC '07 (and it doesn't seem very likely), then head to FriendSTOC (or FallSTOC, a bit further north).

Looks like the Honda Hoot is June 20-23, 2007..
So, we can make EaSTOC the same dates or before or after...
Personally, I don't care to do an event during a large one like this just because I don't care for the extra MC traffic but many would like to go to the Hoot as part of their EaSTOC experience... what do you think?
Now, that being said, I was thinking of just throwing a date out there, I liked the IronHorse campground, and see what happens.
Please forgive me if previous EaSTOC organizers prefer to get this going, you know me, I won't put in much more than my usual 15 mins of work and it took me 10 mins to make this post.
Any thoughts?

Joe, Gene Failzmezger was a principal in the last EASTOC as well as some of the other earlier ones. There was none in 2006 as he couldn't round up any reliable help. Says he won't do another, so up to someone else to pick up the torch.
I know just how he feels, as it's never much fun to try to FORCE other people to ...
GO RIDE!
...when all ya really ought'a haft'a do is pick a place and mention it here.
Ya done good on NATSTOC this year. Ya already mentioned NC for next year. Let's all just be there and (wait for it!)...
GO RIDE!
I plan to be there but NOT at Honda Hoot.
My opinion,
George
NOT in Kingman, Arizona

I know we lost alot of information when the server crashed but didnt this event officially change to NCSToc with EastSTOC being in August at the same location.
Also did anyone ever volunteer to work on this event
The only reason I ask is that I have planned this into my vacation this year and would hate to have the dates wrong.

Michael.. You're Right!... I was in the middle of getting info on the EaSTOC event and this changed to the NCSTOC... thanks for refreshing my memory..
No one is 'working' the event... show up and see who else shows up.. it's that simple.. especially if I started it. LOL

NCSTOC is still a go, check the very first post in this thread or the events block on the homepage... this was going to be EaSTOC but then I found out that event was already being arranged by Gene F.

I had missed this the first couple of go rounds. Won't be able to make it the whole time - have already overcommitted for vacation this year, but will ride up Saturday (maybe even Fri eve) and back on Sunday. Any other local riders on that schedule that want to ride up and back? If I head up Fri evening, will probably superslab it just to make up the time, otherwise backroads all around.
Hopefully Gary can take some time out on Saturday to lead us around the area on his new FJR (hint hint). We had some great rides in Asheville area last year.

I don't know if I'm going to make this one yet, work rules my life at the moment.
I planned this event, therefore the agenda is as follows:
1 - show up
2 - meet friends
3 - go ride
That's it, hook up with people there and look at a map and just pic a route, that part of the country is like northern Arkansas, you can get lost and hit some great roads.
The campground has a nice area and they typically server breakfast / dinner if you let them know how many once you're there. I think they ask when you register so they can go out during the day and get what they need.
Any event I plan will not be structured in any way.. sorry, I just don't feel like putting THAT much effort into it and that's how I'd like it myself, it means I do what I want and dont' feel like I have to adhere to anyone's schedule... but, I end up meeting lots of friends...
If anyone wants to grab the bull by the horns and arrange specific items to do or routes, I'll do what I can to support that and make sure it's updated in the first post... I just have to deal with too much structure, planning, forecasting and the like at work so it gets old...
Hope everyone understands and again, anyone is welcome to add and item to the above agenda. :D

Not sure if I'll make it over to Ironhorse or not, but be sure to look me up while at STAR. The Crown Plaza is only 13 miles from my house, so for this event you are literally coming to 'my backyard'. I'll be around the CP a lot trying to help those who need 'local' advice, and I'll most certainly be at Wheels Thru Time museum on Tuesday for the Lunch Ride.
If at all possible, try to arrive early enough on Sat. to enjoy the evening in downtown Asheville Sat night. The STAR committee has set up shuttle vans so you don't have to ride/park downtown, and has a few fun activities lined up for everyone to enjoy. A summer Saturday night in downtown Asheville is a "don't miss".
Tim and Diana Graham are coming to STAR from Calgary, AB, then onto NCStoc, so look for his '03 ST and a bald guy who sez "ehh" quite often. ;)

I am thinking about making this trip. I need to contact the lodge and see if they would let me rent a bed in the bunkhouse for just one night. Their site says on weekends you must stay two nights. If that is the case its a deal breaker because I will not be able to leave until Friday after 5 when I get off work and it would be an 8 hour ride down. I am not riding across the moutain in the dark so I would stay in Knoxville friday night and head out to meet everyone else sat morning.

That's good to hear, Gary, given that, according to the list of the 424 registered participants as it stood four days ago, there are only three Canadians signed up for STAR -- my wife and I and someone from Quebec. Why so few Canadians take part in HSTA events is a mystery to me.
Sandra and I will be moving from STAR on to the Iron Horse event as well, so if we don't see our fellow Canuckleheads at one event, we'll see them at the other for sure.
Eh?

I hate not being able to make this one but I don't foresee another long trip (more than just a weekend) for at least 'til the last part of the year. I've kept quiet on this thread mostly because I'm ashamed that I can't go and partially because I'm jealous and mad that I can't go...
Everyone ride safe and have a great trip, as long as a few show up and make new friendships it's all worth it and it doesn't matter if it's 5 or 50 in attendance.
At least I'll be in Arkansas for a day.

Just my reservations finalized! I am staying at a super 8 in Knoxville on friday night. Will met up with everyone on Sat. morning. What would be the best way to meet up? Never been to the lodge and really don't want to leave to early to go out in the wild? I can probably be at the lodge around 8-8:30 or if it works for everyone else we could meet at deals gap at 8 and have breakfest there. Let me know what you guys think.

I regret this decision but I will not be able to attend this event after all. I found out last night that my neice will be playing in the NC softball championship tournament. If I was that close to home and the event and did't go I would be disowned as an uncle. We may still swing by thursday evening or friday morning if anyone is there but that about it.
The worst part is that I have been planning this vacation for quite some time, 15 days on the Wing and many places to go, and was really looking forward to attending. I will still be at STAR, leaving in the morning, so look me up if you get a chance. I should be the only Maroon Goldwing with Texas plates there.

They have a pretty good breakfast at the lodge every morning, but it is most likely planned for the number of guests presently there. You might want to call ahead and tell them you're coming so they can plan for you.
Bike is packed and ready, I'm heading out in about 20 minutes, plan to be at the lodge by supper time today.
Hope to see you there!

Ok...so here is the story of the run throught deals gap! We were having a pretty good ride and came up on a truck. I was leading and stayed behind her for about two miles, several times she passed places she could have pulled off and let us go around. So she never lets us go and we finally come to a section where I could see far enough I knew I could make a pass. Crank it open and get about half way around here...here come the OH S***!!! Stuck out there and :cop2: comes around the corner and see me passing in a double yellow. Lights come on and I think...where am I going to pull over. He solved that for me as he put down his window and put his arm out telling me to stop right in the middle of the lane. How much you think that ticket is? I would tell you but all I got was a DONT DO THAT AGIAN:shout1: lights out and away he went. Needless to say I did not do anymore double yellow passing...I figured I got lucky once that day!:bow1:

Saturday moring I would say there was a groups of about 10 at the lodge. We broke into groups of about 2 or 3 and each went different ways depending on how hard of roads each wanted to ride.
I believe it was my bike you saw at the restaurant. A red 05, I ate there about 4:45 or so that evening. I think every one else ate at the lodge. Did you happen to stop at the restaurant and come in and look around and leave? I know a guy on a bike came in, looked around, and walked back out and got on a bike. Did not see what exactly the bike was when the door opened, just saw it for a second.

As in most ST events I've been to there is a group of early arrivers and another group that comes at the midpoint and a final group that arrives at the end of the event. There are very few that stay all the way through the event. Usually the middle days will see the most attenders. JMHO.
I came early on Wednesday afternoon and stayed until Saturday morning but I had to go by 7AM and head home, Neal Schwartz (CCRyder)had water pump issues and had to leave Friday morning, MotoMac came in Thursday evening and had to leave at 4am Saturday.
Your best opportunity to meet the largest group would probably have been Friday Evening. It isn't always that way but the events I've been to have worked out that way.
Hope to see some more of you guys at future events.

NCSTOC was a great event and venue. I thorughly enjoyed meeting all the gracious ST Owners & riders. This was my first weekend STOC event of which I look forward to many more.
I arrived Wednesday night about 8p & left just before 7a Sunday morning. Over that time I counted 15 attendees (including myself) not including the two ST riders Gordon (Sandman) & I met at Deals Gap on Thursday who came over to check out the event before heading back to Indianapolis.
If I can figure out how to insert photos on this board, I'll post a few from the weekend.

I'm glad everyone had a good time, that's the best part about this group. No one really cares that I originally set it up and couldn't even make it... there were still new friendships and fun to be had.
Chuck, if you use the manage attachements at the bottom of the post area when posting a new reply you can pull pics from your PC..also, the paperclip at the top of the post area works the same way.

Needless to say I did not do anymore double yellow passing...I figured I got lucky once that day!:bow1:
yeow... LOL.. bad luck and good luck all in one package... Hey, you never know, that little warning may have just saved you from an even worse package of bad luck... that's how I look at it.

It was a nice venue and a nice bunch of folks who attended. I'm sorry that two factors -- being there on the Wing rather than the ST, and the fact that Sandra had other priorities for us by then, after two weeks on the road and rather intense involvement in two relatively BIG rallies immediately beforehand (the Hoot and HSTA's STAR) -- led me to take less part in the event than I would have wanted to otherwise. But I'm glad Joe took the initiative and that members such as Gordon reached out to draw us in.
The Iron Horse CG is an interesting enterprise. I asked one of the staff about plans for expansion and improvements and his answer was such that I'd like to visit again next year if only to see how much it will have changed. Hope there may be another STOC get-together there next season, to give me another chance to kick tires more seriously.

Other than July 4-13 and Sept. 12-14, I am open and can make it unless something else would come up. Looking at the other events already scheduled, maybe early to mid June would work well?
