I'm planning a weekend trip to the Black Hills. I intend to leave Denver on Friday the 25th and return on Monday the 28th giving me 2 full days in the area. Any input on 'must do' rides is appreciated!

We go up every year for that weekend - "Kool Nights" in Deadwood. Great live free entertainment and more classic cars that you can imagine. Anyway - virtuall ALL the roads in the Black Hills region are great. If you have the chance, take a ride up and down Spearfish Canyon - one of my favorites.

If you see a couple S2000's and a Miata tooling around, give us a big wave! We will be the OLD couple in the med-dark blue S2K!!!

Just spent a week up there in July.

As Mentioned previously Spearfish Canyon Road is great. If you are looking for someplace to stay the Spearfish Canyon Lodge is really nice.

Custer State Park/Wind Cave Natl Park is a great ride.
Check out Deadwood
Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monuments are both worth stopping to see.

If you need some T Shirts to replenish the supply at home head up to Sturgis for some great deals on leftovers.

Devils Monument in Wyoming is a nice ride if you take 24 from north of Spearfish over.. Better ride then 90 to Sundance.

You can check out my ride report and pics at http://www.angelfire.com/az2/STARofPHX/spear.html if you care to.

On the way up from Denver, stop at Gurnesey and stop at Wagon Ruts
state park... (Oregon Trail) from there, take WY 270 on up to 20, go East to
Lusk, continue East on 20 to Crawford, NE, go North on 2/71 (It changes to
71 when you cross into SD).. Follow 71 all the way up to Hot Springs..
Gas up at Crawford, not many places to stop between there and Hot Springs.
You can stop at Cascade State park and look at the little water fall, or go
just a little farther North and stop at the little park on the left hand side
of the road. Couple of ice cold springs, you can stop and soak your
feet if you wanna....

Black Hills.... Iron Mt road, Needles Highway, Spearfish Canyon rd...
Just about any of the roads in the Black Hills are great....
Oh and what Yogi said, go up to Belle Fourche and pick up SD 34, Go West to Wyoming 24 and to Devils Tower... Much better roads than I 90

Needles Highway and Iron Mountain Road...you know something is up when you cross into Custer State Park, and cross the cattle guards, which are actually buffalo guards.....

Thanks ST RIDER!

I just found out about the Kool Nights gig. SWEET! I knew something was going on as I had a hard time finding accomodations. I was finally able to reserve a room at the Ceder Wood Inn.

Spearfish Canyon is on the list!

If you see the '03 with a Colorado tag that reads "RIFRAF", that's me... :03biker:

Thanks PUTT! All on the list.

I will also consider your suggested route. I won't be able to leave Denver until noon on Friday, so I have to make it up there by 10:00PM as that is when the motel office where I will be staying closes. This should not be a real problem though as I've been told it should be about a 7 hour ride from here (Denver).
