View Full Version : Staintunes vs. stock cans weight? Anyone compared?

Just contemplating ways to shed a few pounds... Usually the easiest way is an aftermarket exhaust. So has anyone actually weighted both a Staintune can and a stock can? Just wondering what the difference is. Or maybe I'm just trying to rationalize the $800! :D

Yes, have the Staintunes and they weight about half of what the stock mufflers weight.

Thanks, I guess I was looking for some more empirical evidence... some hard numbers, perhaps?

Then maybe this (http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13385&highlight=Staintunes+weight) will do.

The biggest improvement that aftermarket canisters make over a stock system is not in how much better they flow, its in the amount of weight you lose. Makes the hp/wt ratio much better. Dropping 6-10 pound total is huge in that regard. Most manufacturers have done a lot of homework in making the bike perform efficiently in the exhaust area to begin with. Dropping the weight helps out even more.
If losing 1% of the bike's weight makes a huge difference, I need to lose more weight! :D :03biker:

Most of us could lose 12 pounds a lot easier than we could shell out the $800.
And we wouldn't have to put up with noisy, ugly mufflers. :D

Well everyone has an opinion. I think the stock muffler is much uglier than the Staintunes and 12 lbs heavier. To each his own! As for noisy they are hardly that!

I'm new to this site and just got my new 06 ST yesterday. I have an Interceptor with Staintunes on it and like the sound with the baffles out. Sounds like a mild sports car. Has anyone used the Two Brothers pipes? How do they sound in comparison? They are a bit cheaper. Are there any other options? Has anyone used the K&N filter in conjunction with the pipe change and with what results?
Thanks.

Most that have tried them switched o the Tunes later anyway!...there different sounding then the Tunes plus repacking and that ugly strap they give you to mount them:eek: the Tunes never need repacking and they are top shielf, fit, finish, and mounting.....I would tell you to do the 61 psi pressure regulator along with the K+N and the tunes to get the most out of the set up !...I love it on mine!
