Cindy and I took a little 130 mile jaunt yesterday, up to Bridgeport, home of the $3.99/gallon regular gas, for breakfast, via 338 and back home via US395, finishing off with a nice ride around the valley. The weather was glorious, in the 70's up high and 80's in the valley, sunny, just a little breeze. The scenery was great as usual and the roads were good with only one construction stop on 395 (about 5 miles south of Walker).

Anyway, I thought I'd try out my new Fulmer AFN2 Blue Hook helmet, in FJR (or maybe 04 ST1300) blue/white/silver trim on the ride today. I won this helmet as a door prize at the FJR Owner's Club's WFO-5 rally a couple weeks ago. Thus, I don't have any idea how much they cost.

The Fulmer AFN2 seems very similar to the Shoei RF1000 I usually wear. It's about the same weight, within a couple ounces I think, so it's very light, and fits about the same as the Shoei. Exterior fit and finish is very similar as well. The interior components are very similar to the RF1000, very comfortable. The noise level on both helmets is very similar, maybe just a little higher on the Fulmer. The viewport is about the same size on both helmets, they are almost indistinguishable in design, to my eye at least. The graphics on the Fulmer are very nicely done as are those on the RF1000.

The Shoei is better in a couple areas. Ventilation is good on the Fulmer, but better on the Shoei. The shield attachment system is superior on the Shoei as well, IMO, I've always liked the Shoei quick-change system. The Fulmer is a standard screw system. The Fulmer shield operates a bit easier than the Shoei due to a bigger tab on the shield, and has a nice detent at about a half-inch open. I think the shield is a bit tighter on the Shoei though, which accounts for the slight increase in noise on the Fulmer.

I don't know what the price is on the Fulmer, and they don't sell them on the internet, so it's difficult to get a price on them without going to a dealer. But if they're cheaper than the Shoei RF1000 and you are looking to save a bit, this might be a good alternative.
