View Full Version : What are you packing for Westoc

For the last 2 Westocs I overpacked and ended up sending STuff back home in a box. I usually buy souvenirs and books and ship them back anyways
In any case, wanna pack lite this time and was wondering how some of you are packing. I am taking 3 pairs of jeans, 4 briefs, 3 socks and a winter sock, tennis shoes (smal sneakers), 2 or 3 t shirts and my toiletries, swim suit. Also my heated vest and related stuff.
Any feedback welcomed..
Sorry, no thongs for Louie Louie...

So happy to see you are leaving the thongs at home, Louie. I'm interested on the answers here too, as I overpacked for my last trip. In addition to what you're carrying, I'm carrying a rain suit and laptop. Hope I can learn to reduce the stuff significantly.

As I posted in another thread....I am concentrating on "minimalist" this time.
The one pain in the neck item to pack on a multi day trip for me is shoes. I only take one pair (of course) and I usually make them sandals.
This trip though, I plan on doing some camping/hiking in Utah. Can't hike in my Joe Rocket Revolutions. Shoes take up significant room in saddle bags and don't compact very well. Tent/sleep bag/thermarest are going on top (no top box) so no shoe room there.
I'll figure something out.

Don't forget, almost all the "chain" motels have washer/dryers...
Pack light and wash a load of clothes every couple of days... Cuts down
on the packing...

I thought about that on my last trip but it came down to:
Drink beer or wash clothes?
Guess which one prevailed...
Fred :03biker:
PS You are right as rain, Putt. I just don't see anytime at WeSTOC for clothes washing.

Oh, I thought about it, Putt. But the last time I washed clothes at a laundromat (while drinking beer), I went home with someone elses clothes!
I need to be surrounded by like minded friends when I drink.

Ship it to the hotel, they will hold it at the desk for you - UPS ground is real cheap.

Bryan, shoes are bulky but there's plenty of room back there. Hope and I have tent camped quite a bit. Our sleeping bags, blankets, pillows, tarp, tent (8x9x6'tall) and shoes all go on the rack. Stuff your spare socks in your shoes to utilize otherwise wasted space. That still leaves two whole saddlebags to pack.

Pack OTHER things inside your shoes. Socks, toiletries, belts, and more. The net loss of space becomes fairly small that way.

Tankbag has camera, batteries, snacks, radio and music supplies/ Players.ASA, spare keys, sunglasses
Left pocket has tools
Right Pocket has rags and shield stuff
Under the Seargent I have my tire plugger and paperwork
Givi 52 has second helmet, raingear, cables for stuff, spare gloves and that sort O' stuff, tennis shoes
Right bag has liners for the Alter Ego stuff, air pump, windproof fleece and clothing I only need when I am not traveling between hotels things like one pair of jeans, one non teeshirt type shirt.
Left bag has shaving kit, teeshirts, shorts, socks, and random stuff like a swimsuit.
This way when I stop I only need the tankbag and the left bag liner when I go in each nite.
I wear alterEgo, riding boots, helmet, regular gloves each day.
This has worked out real good for a while now.

For you high humidity types like me, don't forget that clothes dry really fast in Denver so Tiny's suggestion is a very good one. I should have done it on my last trip and saved all the extra hauling. :o:

Shoes what a PITA. I put one in the bottom of each saddlebag and put jacket liners and rain gear on top of them. I carry my clothing changes in a stuff bag bungied to the back seat. I keep anything in the stuff bag I want to keep dry in a trash bag. I wear a dry fit shirt and wash it every night. It dries rapidly and so can go as long as I want with only one shirt and a spare. I bring worn ou socks and such, disposing of them as I go.
