View Full Version : Clock keeps resetting
Have noticed over the past couple of weeks that my clock on my ST1300 is off by several hours. I assume that it's resetting but have not been able to figure out why. All of the other electronic controls seem fine. Any ideas?

What have you installed on the bike ?

Dang it... My accountant (i.e. wife) is not going to like hearing that... Of course, it is still the original battery... I'll just use the trip meter on my GPS until the battery dies completely... :D

If that is happening then you are experiencing a power loss. It could be the battery but it could also be a loose wire, a faulty/failing connector or some other electrical related thing. In any case, I wouldn't ignore it. It could be minor but it could also be something that leaves you stranded.
I'd get the bike checked out ASAP...

Speaking of 'stranded'... I've heard (can't remember where) that the ST1300 (or maybe it was the ST1100) could not be 'bump' started? I haven't tried it yet, but I thought anything with a clutch could be 'bump' started... (Sorry about the hi-jack :))

P.S. Next time I have the front tupperware off (stebel horn install soon), I'll be sure and check all the connections (i.e. disconnect, dielectric grease, reconnect)....

Son-of-a-gun.... I would probably know that if I still knew where my owner's manual was... Anybody got a PDF of an 04 owner's manual... Seems I take better care of my electronic documents than I do with the real thing...

Oh, and you CAN bump start a ST1300. FYI!

You can bump start an 1100 if the battery ain't TOO flat. OTOH, if its really flat (as I had last week) you can still hike home a half mile UP HILL to get the truck and jumper cables, then ride the bike home and hike back DOWN the hill to get the truck.
Yes, true story. Don't ask.

This resetting issues sounds more like a flaky contact to me. Have you tried cleaning the contacts on the battery and the clamps with a wire brush ? I would then tighten the connections up really well.
I had a similar issue on one of my other bikes. Took me months to figure out what it was. It was as stated above.
Also have you noticed it happening with temperature ? If so it might just be a crappy battery.

I left my key on at work and found my bike dead.... me and co-worker tried a couple runs at getting it started by pushing... no way jose. Found a set of jumper cables. Unless I am looking down a nice long hill that will be the last time I ever try to puch start this bike.

Would you be able to bump start a bike with an electric fuel pump with a dead battery?
When I turn on the key and I don't hear the whir of the fuel pump I assumed the bike wouldn't be starting no matter how far I push it.

...an electric fuel pump with a dead battery?...
THAT is the information that I was missing... Thanks! :D
P.S. I found a PDF version of a '03 user manual... It doesn't mention anything about the tripmeter going back to zero after 1999 miles...

You can bump it if the battery isn't too far gone - but if the fuel pump isn't whining then your battery is totally dead. I think where the no-bump-starts thing comes from is that vehicles with a catalytic converter (cars and bikes) aren't supposed to be bumped because of the possibility of unburnt fuel getting pumped out the exhaust and damaging the cat matrix. I suppose that could happen on a Fuel Injected bike which had enough battery left to run the fuel pump but not enough to give a decent spark - the injected fuel would just be pumped through into the cat.

It's not in the owners manual. I discovered that on accident over the past couple of trips we took. Both trips the trip meter reset @ 2k. Figured that's how Honda set it up. Why, I will never know.

I have just now got around to checking in on this thread, and I'm glad I did. I had meant to bring it up myself when I thought my trip meter reset at 2K on my recent trip. This site is absolutely great!
