Pulled up along side a van and I was located around the point of his rear quarter panel (the driver's side) and I was in the act of passing when he turns his magical signal light on to come into my lane..(you know the magical signal light that causes a big windshield wiper to come out and sweep the road clean next to him so he does not have to look:mad: )
I give em' a blast of my trusty ol 139db stebel horn and away he jerks back into his lane:)
As I go by and he looks at me sheepishly I point my two fingers to my eyes.
This horn is a God send. Honda should be ashamed at the piece of crap that was delivered with the bike. You may as well scream at the top of your lungs than blow the stock horn.
Ladies and gentlemen you owe it to yourself to get one of these put on. Next to fork lights consider this a great safety device. When you need to use your horn is usually in a danger situation. You will want to be heard!

I fully agree with you. I just put mine on a couple of months ago and have used it about 4 times in the same situation. Just last week, I was coming into an intersection and there were about 5 cars wanting to make a left turn facing me. The first car went through, but there was the second car that looked like it had a Mom and 2 kids in it. I had a feeling that she looked passed me and was about to turn. I hit the horn just as she started moving. Her eyes were quite wide when I passed her, giving her the "Look".
Best farkle to save my bacon.:04biker:

I agree completely. Many occasions that my stebel made someone see me that I believe otherwise they wouldn't have.
Terry, glad yer healing bro. I would like to add to your list, if you dont already have also, headlight modulators and brakelight modulators. Those are my "big 3" now for safety. Don't leave home without them ;)

Why not your current bike?
I've had the same situation a few times. Generally, the Stebl works wonders. I did have one idiot who completely ignored it. Don't know if the stereo was turned up so loud he couldn't hear, or if he just figured he was bigger than me so screw it.
The last time I had to use the Stebel, the driver pulled up next to me at the next light, rolled down his window, and said he was sorry! I almost fainted.

The Stebel is a must. I still chuckle every time I use it and jump myself becasue I forget how loud it is.
I also agree the headlight modulator is another must. It definitely gets people's attention.

Love that Stebel horn. My buddy with a cruiser liked mine so much he mounted a chromed version on his Nomad.
Honk!

I almost gave an old blue haired lady a heart attack with mine the other day, after I blasted her she pulled back into her lane and would not make eye contact with me:D

Agree, it sure makes heads turn. Have mine mounted up above orig. horn position. BTW Austin City Limits I do see a spot to mount that horn.

can the stebel horn use the oem horn button / wiring?
duffy05489

The OEM wiring can be used to power the relay that comes with the horn but the power that actually "blows" the horn is connected directly to the battery. You can do a search on Stebel and you should be able to locate some great pictures and discussions on the best way to do this install.

There is a great write up of an install with some really good detailed pictures...When I get a chance I find it for you.
And the best part is the horn is cheap..Its only about 35 bucks..Don't think a group buy is going to get us anything.

Yup, I've had this experience about once a month. Look out for those rear quarter panel locations near adjacent cages whether left or right - common cage blind spots for cagers that don't bother to look. Don't linger there!
I've had cagers react almost violently to swerve back into their lane (almost making me regret blowing it) and at the other extreme ones that seem well and truly oblivious to the sound of my STebel.
I've had dogs almost play dead on the side of the road using the Stebel. Amazing stuff :D
Installation: (thanks to Dano :D )

I'm with you there...I hang out there as little as possible for the least amount of time as possible.
I've got one... in the box it came in... I'm just waiting for a chance to have it put on.
I've also printed out all the photos and instructions from this site... that should help a lot.

From the description of the installation it looks as though my Powerlet connection to my battery would get in the way. Would it not be able to be powered via the wiring harness?

Possibly... but you want as many amps as possible going stright into the horn to get the full benefit. Trust me. Wire it (through a relay) straight from the battery... You won't regret it... :)

I understand what you mean. I'm just concerned with how one would connect both the Powerlet and the Stebel directly to the battery is all. For $35, that's a pretty cheap farkle I'd be willing to install toute suite.

I have a Blue Sea fuse block running straight off the battery (w/10ga wire) and 'ignition switched' with a good quality 30amp relay and 30amp fuse (that way, if I have an electrical 'problem', all I have to do is turn off the ignition - provided the problem is not the relay). I run all my accessories from the fuse block... and that's where I will pull power for my Stebel (when I get/install it)...

Todd, I want that horn. Please help a electrical neophyte. I'll order the horn and let you know when I have it.
And I think it's creepy how much Austin City Limits' bike looks like yours. Stay safe.

My Stebel is powered directly from the battery through a fuse (placed very close to the battery) using, Stebel-recommended, 12GA wire. I think I used a 10A fuse. For my 12V outlet I just tapped it off of that hot wire, after the fuse, leading to the horn, or more correctly the horn relay. The one fuse does double duty. The only time I use anything high-draw in the 12V outlet is when I use my tire inflator. Not likely to be bothering with the horn at the same time, so it works out fine for me.

Personally it was a real easy install, and as was said earlier it's a real cheap farkle to put on that might save your life. Who needs loud pipes when you have 139db. I have to admit I find myself just hoping someone will "make" me use it. Scares the hell out of someone on a cell phone while driving and not paying attention.:D The best safety device you can have on your cycle.

I found mine at Harbor Freight - it is packaged under the name "BOLO" but it is the same horn.
In a day or so I'll try to get some photos posted of how I mounted my horn.
