I was curious when you first noticed an ST and realized this was "the bike for you" (regardless of if you actually purchased it at that time).....from this age(point) on, you were actively seeking out articles on the bike, researching competing bikes, looking at accessories.....

When I took my MSF course... the girl who was teaching it had a red 1100... sweet looking. Knew then that my vtwin days were numbered :D Took me a few years, but finally got my red 1300 :p:

I've liked the ST's since first introduced in 1990. Circumstances and such kept me from getting one until 2006. Dreams do come true :).

First rode the ST in 91 at Avon STAR. Wasn't impressed, seemed buzzy and didn't like the exhaust note. I was riding an 88 Wing at the time.
Derek didn't really like it either. He was happy with his PC.
BUT, after he returned from a 2-up trip to Vermont, he said he needed more HP. We found lightly used black 91 and he was happy. I wasn't as I could no longer "keep up" on the Wing. So, in 93 I found STick and traded "down." ;^)
Haven't really looked back since.

After a '78 1000 GW, it was Honda's answer to everything the naked GW was short of, and the 1500 had in excess.
When I read the early reviews (early '90s) in 2002 comparing the BMW and ST1100 I knew the bike for me.
Found a used one at the local $Tealer (this is the REAL $Tealer in my area) and had Chris sit on it.
Bought one the next month.

Frankly I never knew they existed until I started research on buying a motorcycle a little more than a year ago.
My plan had been to get a cruiser of some type, but I also considered a Goldwing. A few years back, I'd run into a guy who had a Triumph sport-tourer, and I'd seen some of the BMWs, but I wasn't aware Honda made a similar model. The European bikes I looked at were just out of my price range.
When I started doing research, I began to see the Honda ST name pop up all over with a strong reputation for being bullet proof.
Bought a '91 on eBay without ever having consciously seen one in person.
Age: 30.

I did a lot of homework, over a years worth before I bought this time. I came off Harley's (20 years ago) and still like them but wanted something for more distance. I narrowed it down to the ST, BMW and FJR. I didn't like the seating position or layout of the FJR myself. Not to mention you couldn't buy a test ride. The BMW's are a great bike but the maintenance schedules and prices of that were a turn off for me. Then I found a dealer that let me test ride the ST, I didn't drive it a mile and knew this was it. Several million in farkles later and I got the perfect bike (just kiddin). Actually only the Heli's, TM's, Rick Mayer seat and Hondaline topbox made a perfect bike for me.

I wanted one since '91, when it was introduced in the US....
Have you ever seen the '91 brochure ?!
I was 25
It was to expensive for me though. I bought the CBR1000F in '94 and added the GIVI bags and screen, but it still wasn't the ST....:)
I had to wait till '99 when I bought a used '92 with 14K miles.
I sold it a year later, as a friend of mine REALLY wanted it. But I never got it out of my system. I wanted to buy the '05 when a friend of mine offered me a great deal on a project '91 that I'm still trying to resurect.
When I do, it'll be a great bike ! :03biker:

I had just started a job out of college when I went for a group ride with some colleagues and friends. One of the friends had an ST1100.
I wasn't hooked right away, because to me it was a modern, can never afford it, cool looking bike, especially compared to my ride then (16 year old Suzi 850 GSX with bolt-on fairing).
Then, 10 years and an emigration to the US later, I started looking into getting a MC, but one of the biggest European MC market segments (SportTouring) is only a niche here in the US. Of the bikes available, the ST is the best combo of ride, reliability and price for me.

Probably would have done it sooner than 36, but that's when I heard about the ST - especially since I think I was one of the few 28 year olds riding a GW back then (88-95). But once I got a bike with saddlebags. fairing and shaft drive I knew there was no going back after that. I was actually looking for a Connie when a friend at school where I worked told me about the ST (he was riding a Pacific Coast and wanted to upgrade to one). I actually got my first ST (1995) from the local Kawi dealer after I saw it there while looking at a Connie
First got turned on to Sport Touring bikes when I was a teen riding with older guys on an early Connie and some bimmers. I was 25 when I got my first, a '91 ST1100. It's odd, the older I get, the more "Sport" I am wanting... if my pillion weren't so insistant, I might be on an ST3 or a Sprint right now... there is always hope that after she gets a few miles behind her on one of her own that she'll free me from the need for a decent 2 up ride :D
I didn't really know about them until a few months ago. I was looking at RT model BMWs but have had great luck with Hondas in the past....
sweet looking
What was sweet looking, the girl or the bike;)
I was 33 when my riding buddy traded his Nighthawk for a Triumph Trophy. Once I saw what it could do, I wanted the Honda equivelant. Out went the VFR, and in came the ST. :burnout
The first ime I sat on one! That would have been 2003 so I was about 40. I think age is irrelavent. It has to do with a point in your riding career, not a number!

This is about the same as my STory. FirST magazine article I read was in 1989 and by the time they were introduced in 1990, I knew I wanted one. I couldn't quite bring myself to buy a black one, so when the later 1991's came out in Silver - I was hooked. Bought my firST in April of 1991.
Now, some 15 1/2 years later, I've owned five ST1100's and my present ST1300!!!

I had an 05 Connie and wanted a little more on the highway and the Honda guy pointed out the 05 ST I now own. It is what he said it was a smooth, strong, stable ride with more wind resistance than the Connie and more power on the trips across Florida.

The first year they came out .I had a bike or two at the time and didnt spend that much for a long while .Now that I'm older and wealther I was getting back into bikes and this was one of the first two choices FJR being the other one .
This won out but a good margin as for just plain fun .
Couldnt find a better value for the money aas I was looking in the 10K to 23K range. This bike beats all comers with out a lot of effort .
Just love it and barely have a 1000 miles on it

I had a 2001 Connie, and for the money, it's hard to beat. However, for a bit more money, my 2003 Honda ST 1300 is a far greater bike. Although, the stock seat was terrible compared to the Connie stocker. I'm still undecided on which bike has the most fairing protection, but I think it's about even. Cargo space is about the same as well. Smoothness is leaps and bounds ahead of the Connie. I didn't have any mechanical issues with the Connie, nor have I with the ST. Well...I did have a small coolant leak, but nothing major. In the speed dept., the ST is way out in front of the Connie. However, if mother Kawi comes out with this:

We may have some serious competition. I'm interested in what the month of September will bring us. As for now, I'm as happy with the ST as I can be. It's fun, it's fast, it's comfortable, it's reliable, and I can ride forever on a tank of gas.

I was 76 when I baught my 05 ST Prior to that I rode BMW. BMWNA pissed me off so many times with their arragont attitude is why I switched. Prior to BMW I rode Gold Wing until Margaret stopped riding with me in 99.:biker:

In the early 80's, the state police here were riding the new BMW K100's. At the tender age of 17, I knew that I couldn't afford one of those so it went onto the back burner... way back... for a number of years.
20 years later, I bought a K100RT and rode the wheels off it until I happened to be passing a local Honda STealer...
3 days later, I rode away on my big red beauty...

Two years ago, I was getting ready to get a HD Electraglide. The wife asked me why do I want one of those boat anchors. She knew I didnt want a Connie, and suggested an ST1300. I didnt even know what one was. Two years later, I now own one.

Bought a Honda Shadow 1100 from my neighbor after a 15yr hiatus from street bikes. Was having fun for a while and realized cruisers were not for me. After 6 months started looking at sport tourers and read a Motorcyclist Magazine report on the BMW, FJR, and ST. They picked the FJR so I was going to get one but you had to order one. Decided to check out a ST. Never really noticed one before but soon as I saw her in the showroom I had to have her. Glad it worked out that way. I was 52.
