In today's Charlotte Observer ...

http://www.charlotte.com/mld/observer/15413323.htm

A NC Legislature and Winston-Salem resident leaves today for 30 days on the road on a Goldwing. His goal is to break the 30 day record of 30,451 miles, and to raise a little money for organ regeneration research at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center.

Good Luck, Dale!!

Good luck Dale... I think I'm envious, but I think I gotta think about it some more

I sure hope he has a good support crew because that is better than 30 SS rides without a break to recover. Mental fatigue may be his biggest enemy. I wish him luck and a safe ride.

I had no idea the record was that close to 1000 miles a day. Looks like my next spring is going to be all tied up. ;)

I couldn't find a total or to see if he was on track...

But, if anyone can beat this one, I'm sure Curt can.

Just the fact that you need 1/3 less gas stops makes a big difference...

Once you plan a route, I'm sure we could even have stops where new wheels w/tires are ready and put on and the oil changed while you sleep.

If I still had my ST, I'd volunteer the wheels for the effort, I'll still volunteer my garage and do a wheel swap/oil change for you if need be.

Just something to consider.

I'll second that... leave her in the garage and head for the guest room, she'll be ready when you crawl out... oil and such anyway, I don't have the means to do tires.

I'm thinking if it's done right, the last set of tires needed could be the same stop as the first set so he's back on his original wheels (w/new rubber)... but then someone has to get some wheels shipped back unless the wheels being used are considered equal to those volunteering them... then, it's like they never left.

Knowing Curt as little as I do, I'm sure he's doing all the math right now... :nuts1:

So far, I believe he is on track. I started reading the diary at day 1 and this Day 10 entry will let you know that Honda riders have big hearts. Dale had a flat tire and this other Winger swapped bikes with him. Amazing!

Brought tears to my eyes...

I'll chip in gas/oil/tire/filter fund for that... come on Curt! :bow1:

I'd'a just swapped rear wheels. Or changed out the tire. Should all be done on one bike (unlike yesterday's AU GP!)

I can understand this one, as it's a charity gig. Wouldn't mind doing it myself (on STick if possible, as this would push her over 200,000 miles. ;^)

Sure would take some planning!

Yeah.. what's up with that...

THAT would be sweet!

Sure would take some planning!

Come on George, we know you can do it... you have more than enough support.

My initial reaction was that there is no way he will succeed.

Then, I read the article and got choked up about his son's death. I am rethinking that with this type of motivation, he could do it.
