What is the law regarding radar detectors in the province of Quebec? I'm going next week and don't want to lose my 8500.

I had one once when I was driving through Quebec. The key word there is *had*. They took it from me and fined me about US$600.

Radar detectors are illegal not just in Quebec but the whole country re Canada

Yeppers, I think Jbim's right on that one. No radar detectors for all of Canada that I know of, yet.

I'm in London Ontario and ride a lot into the US. A few years back I used radar detectors for when in the US but for some reason the temptation was too great and I found they just happend to be "on" while on Canadian roads also.

I had two taken by police and both times lucky enough to talk my way out of a fine but it still cost me a lot of coin for no reason other than stupidity.

I've learned to slow down a little and respect the posted limits. Not always as much fun but it sure is cheaper.

I thought the Western Provinces allowed detectors - BC, AB, maybe some more. TTBOMK, any device that is used to disrupt radar 'guns', is not allowed anywhere in Canada.

WOW. Obviously, I didn't know that. Has it always been that way or was it changed recently? For any motor vehicle?

Automobile Radar Detectors

Three provinces do not prohibit radar detectors. They are British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan. All the rest (including the territories) do prohibit radar detectors. The police will confiscate radar detectors, whether in use or not, and may impose fines up to $1000.
