i have an 04 st and rode a couple houndred miles about 2 weeks ago.Inoticed then it went dead after i started it and after i rode about a half mile it shut off again at a stop sign.went to start it again yesterday and it wouldnt start. The bike stays in storage until i get a chance to ride it and only has about 4500 miles on it.Has anyone else had any simular problems with theres or know how to fix it? It seems the stop switch isnt working rite as it dosent make the sound it used to when i switched it on.

If the sw is not making the positive click as it goes from one mode to the other, it may very well be defective. Kinda dangerous, I would look into a warranty repair soon if that is the case. The sw assy is not teribly expensive if you need to DIY, much cheaper that crashing I'd say.

the sound it was making before when i turned on the switch was like a small electric motor turning a worm gear drive , now it only clicks and dosent start.i checked the fuses but they all were good, I think ill justtake it to the honda shop and letthem keep it for a few weeks

the stop switch seems to be working, i guess it has something to do with the EFI

That's not the switch that's the fuel pump sound. You may indeed have a bad kill sw. That sw kills the FP.
Are you sure the 20a fuel pump/coil fuse is OK?

The sound you are missing is indeed your fuel pump not coming on, which is why I asked what you were not hearing.
If you fuel pump is not coming on it could be a few different things.
It could be
A bad switch
A blown fuse
A bad fuel pump
Faulty wiring
A battery going bad or a loose battery connection.
Do the lights stay on when the bike dies, or do they shut off as well?

Had a similar problem on my 1100. If you used the switch to kill the engine, and turned it back on the bike wouldnt start. Also somtimes if you tapped the switch while the engine was running it would kill it... which I discovered while doing 80mph down a busy motorway :D
A good spray of wd-40 and then switching it on and off for a few mins sorted it out. I always give all my switches a spray of silicone lubricant after washing now and never had a problem with switches since.

hmmm thats interesting... cos on the can i have in the shed, it says to use it on electrical switches...
but yeah.. im sure that liquid wrench stuff that Paul is talking about is spot on(we dont have it here, and if we did it would be called "liquid spanner" :D )
But one thing to remember is that a lot of those things like wd-40 (not sure about liquid wrench) are great for solving the problem, but evaporate after a while, and your problem comes back, so remember to use somthing that will lubricate your switch after you sort ur problem out.
I have a buddy that reSTores bikes and some 40-60 y/o old switches look like they're done. I found this and he tried it with excellent results. Hard to find in some areas.

If you have the switch off just soak it in this STuff for a while.

i checked fuses but not all of them i'll have to do another check.I really appreciate the input from you guys.
Mine says "Drives out moisture on metal surfaces e.g. electrical contacts, car ignitions..." Not heard of very many WD-40'd vehicles bursting into flame, myself.

Took the st back to the dealership today to find out what the problem was, hope to hear back from them in a few days. Is there still a 65 dollar first hour charge for warranty work?

If your looking to clean electrical switches, go to Radio Shack and get a can of the stuff used for cleaning electrical switches. Besides cleaning, it doesn't leavea film that will attract dust.
