Total miles ridden to, from and around WeSTOC = 3,010
Average MPG = 46.4
Highest MPG = 51.2
Lowest MPG = 39.3 (Nevada "whacking")
Total Gallons fuel consumed = 60.1
Total dollars fuel cost = $195.70
Total oil consumed = 0 qt.
Number of close calls = 1 (some dufus in an S10 pick up that changed lanes
into me as I was about to pass in Utah - not even the Stebel horn could get
through to him!)
Number of bike problems = 2, (both minor), occassional stalling due to too
low of an idle speed for the altitudes and a slight coolant leak near the
chin of the lower faring. The weep hole on the water pump looks dry
though. This only happened in the AM at Torrey, UT whilst it was still
quite cool out.
Number of farkle problems = 2, (busted GPS mount, dropped radar detector in
parking lot on the way home)
My rear Michelin Pilot Road with 2500 miles on it easily lasted through
WeSTOC and has good tread remaining at 5500 miles.
Best meal = Cafe Diablo in Torrey Utah. ( the banquet at WeSTOC was a
close second though)
Highest speed reached = 120 MPH, to catch Hal and John after securing my
GPS and RD that came loose on Route 66.
Other notes:
-I was impressed how well the EFI on the ST1300 handled the altitude,
minimizing power loss compared to my 1100. I did have to adjust the idle
speed upward a couple hundred RPM to stop the bike occasionally stalling
when pulling the clutch in. I had to turn it back down when I got home.
-My little Kenwood FRS radio, plugged into my Starcom1 Advance worked
beautifully, with one set of 3 alkaline AA batteries lasting the whole week
and the trip to and from Laguna Seca before that! WIth such good battery
life, I will forgo trying to hard wire power from the bike and avoid all
the related noise and ground loop issues.
-XM radio rocks on a cross country trip like this!
-The Corbin Solo seat worked better than I expected, and I am quite
satisfied with it.
