View Full Version : Tip-Over Bar Group Buy...

I had several folks at NatStoc that expressed an interest in the tip-over bars, and a few other folks have emailed about purchasing a set. So, I thought I'd try a group buy. Based on quantity ordered, I can get a better deal on them. In short, we'll see what the interest level is and go from there. Here are the prices based on quantity:

10 sets = $180 shipped

15 sets = $170 shipped

25 sets = $160 shipped

50 sets = $150 shipped

Anything less than 10 would be at the standard price of $195 shipped. Also, I'm going to throw out a general question. Had you guys rather have the black allen head bolts that you've seen on the units or stainless bolts? I can provide stainless if that would be preferred. Again, all units will come ready to mount and powdercoated. If you don't have any idea what I'm talking about, you can find all of the details in this thread:
http://www.st-owners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14622

Note: Shipping included price applys to Continental U.S. residents only. Canada and European shipping will be additional.

Note: Update: 03/25/2008 This thread is from September of 2006. Quite a bit has happened since then. Oil is over $100 a barrel. We have the first female and the first black man running for President of the United States. We just had the 5 year anniversary of the Iraq war. Home foreclosures are at an all-time high. The U.S. postal service increased their rates. I started shipping with stainless bolts that run about $5.00 per bolt, and four go out. I also changed the grade and size of steel to make the bars even more rigid than before. In short, the bars are different from the bars at that time and the cost of materials and shipping have forced me to increase my price to you the consumer. Welcome to America. If you don't think the $245 via paypal for U.S. orders is worth it's weight, go back and ask a few of the folks that have had to use them. I may be biased, but it's still a bargain in my book. Alas, I digress. In all seriousness, I strive to give you guys the best price that I can and still make it worth my while to churn the things out. Thanks.

Ride Safe,
bygdawg

The black flush hex head bolts would seem to be the best fit for a uniform look to the brackets.
Yes, I would like a set when the group buy is ready.

Sorry...I don't offer anything for the 1100 at this time. Looks like we have two buyers so far with a few that haven't posted yet as well. We're on our way to 10.

I am interested in getting a set of them, and would love it if we had enough interest to drop the pricing a bit. I just got my new black '06 1300 with ABS last Saturday and the idea of me falling over with the bike on top of me is a bit scary. (How does one lift up a 700 lb bike?? Hope I never have to find out!!)

I just finished reading the link about Raven Down, and in his posts, he mentioned how the tipover bars prevented him from having a crushed leg. For that reason, along with the protection offered to the bike and bags, put me on the list for a set. Let me know when you are ready to process the order. Thanks

Four folks so far. We'll see how it goes. As far as lifting the bike, the bars help with that a bit, since the bike isn't down quite as far as it would be without. The key to lifting this bike though is a firm grip on the rear of the bike, a good grip on the handlebar of the side that is down, put your lower back into the seat and lift up using your legs while pushing a bit with your back. Oh...and make sure you have a nice non-slippery surface to work with. LOL All kidding aside, you can practice this several times once you get the tip-over bars on and not have to worry about damage to the bike.

Count me in, I am definitely interested, even if the count is less than 10! I got a quote of $740 for a set (front and rear sliders/bars) similar to the police bikes! These look like they would keep the bike up just enough to be able to do the lift thing if needed without straining yourself to death!

um. . . .it may be a few weeks but count me in - for a right side?

(anybody need just a left?)

BTW - would much prefer STAINLESS bolts as the allen bolts were already showing rust spots (even here in AZ) after only being on a couple weeks.

I'm going to order stainless bolts as well as the black. Any of you wanting stainless will be able to get those. You can always apply a bit of black paint to the stainless bolts to make them blend in with the black if you prefer that. Personally, I don't think stainless and black look bad together, but that's just my opinion.

I'm interested. I think they're a good idea. The black powder coating will go well with my black bike. Think I'd prefer the black bolts as well unless you think the black paint would stay on the stainless bolts.

I'm in - stainless bolts for me.

bygdawg

That would make 8. Only two more to get to the first discount marker.

bygdawg
09-21-2006, 12:48 PM
Sorry fellas, but all of my bolt suppliers say that the stainless are not available. However, I can get zinc coated silver at no additional charge, and those should hold up to the elements. Also, I can get titanium bolts that will hold up forever and ever and ever, but that would be at an additional cost of $16.00 because they are $4.00 a piece. And, it doesn't matter if I order 50 or 100. To see a big difference in price, I'd have to order 1,000 or more, which isn't going to happen unless we start selling the heck out of tip-over bars. For those of you that were wanting stainless, I will be subing the zinc coated silver unless you tell me otherwise. We'll give the group buy a few more days to see where we end up and then we'll start the ball rolling. Thanks.

bygdawg
09-21-2006, 03:25 PM
You might be able to add a blast of clear coat protectant on the black ones before installation to help them out. Powdercoating the bolt heads is also an option, but that would be about $2 per bolt, and you'd have to be very careful during installation. If everyone wants, we can look at posting funds on the 31st and placing orders that same day. Does that sound okay to everyone? I think we'll make the first discount level by then.

bygdawg
09-21-2006, 05:37 PM
It will be about three weeks from the day that I receive the funds. You should have the bars in hand by the fourth week. So, if the deposits come in at the end of the month, the bars will be on your bike by the end of October...unless you leave them sitting in the box. LOL

Count me in! This one's been on my farkle list for a while. $180 is a good price. After reading Raven's story about how it saved his leg, it wasn't hard to convince my wife. She's the one who said "your leg is worth more than $180."

They are direct bolt-ons, using existing bolt holes so there is do drilling or cutting of any kind. Here are the basic steps:

1. Put the bike on the center stand.
2. Remove only one side of the bolts at one time. (Don't try to remove all four bolts at the same time).
3. You don't have to, but it might help to spray some lube on the bolts that I sent with the bars.
4. Place the bars into position.
5. Have someone lift slightly on the rear of the bike or via the grab bar on the side that you are working on. This will take any down pressure that would be on the bolt.
6. Start the bottom bolt first and then the top bolt, being sure to tighten then equally.

Note: Don't try to force anything. The bolts are the "exact" same specs as the originals with the exception of being a bit longer, and they should thread in smoothly. They are 10mm X 1.25 X 50, and they come "slightly" pre-lubed.

The bolts are not available in a stainless as mentioned above but are available in a silver zinc coated bolt that will protect against corrosion. The stainless were unavailable in stock sizes.

18 so far. Canuck, I should mention that shipping outside the US is additional. I'm not sure what the total cost to Ontario would be. However, if you live close to the border and have a friend on this side, I can ship them that way for no extra charge. I've done that for a few guys out of Canada.

Glad to hear they are working for STJMG. :)

Wish I'd had them last two weeks ago. After 3 years of ownership and 23750 miles, I finally dropped it after I stalled it while making a u turn. A week later, I dropped it again, not checking to see if the sidestand was down. And........ my wife was onboard. She was amazed how well the tip over wings work. Minor scuff marks on the bottom of the left bag thou.

So belatedly count me in for a set.
