I'm staying at the Ft. Davis Motor Inn, but will also be arriving on Thursday night. Would love to hook up with some folks who want to head out in the morning for a ride.

Mellow,
I'm currently planning on making the trip to TexSTOC but don't have a room booked. I was also wondering who else would be camping also. Never been west of San Antonio and not familiar with the Ft. Davis area. Is the Ft. Davis State park usualy booked and hard to get a camping spot at? Is it necessary to reserve a campsite? Whats your aprox ETA? Lots of questions I know... but I'm winging it on a ST, lol

I've never had to reserve a site there... usually get a site near the restroom/showers on the road to the Indian Lodge, it's inside the park.

I'm planning on leaving work at 12ish so I'll get there after 8pm... maybe a little later, gotta take it slow in deer country...

I'll pm you my cell number, if you get there first and get a site, I'll split it with ya.... the sites are big and we can easily get 3 tents on one so we can split it with others.. the sites toward the Indian Lodge are usually best because there isn't as much RV activity as the first part of the park.

Might want to give the state park a buzz as that weekend is a big one in Fort Davis - Columbus Day, Star Party, Art Show, Fort Days weekend. Their number is 432/426-3337.

Hopefully I'll have a bike in time to make it - my folks live in Fort Davis so thought it would be a fun way to meet STers while seeing the folks!

Otherwise I'll probably have to wait 'til DesertSTOC.

Good point, I've never had a problem but I also usually hit it when nothing's going on...

I'm planning on camping. Headed toward home tomorrow, gonna head back toward Fort Davis, TX middle of that week so I'll have about a week and a half in AZ.

Deba says she misses me. ;^)

I may be camping myself Mellow. A prior appointment kept me from making plans for TexSTOC until week before last. There is no available room within 100 miles of Fort Davis. So I may have to pickup some campin gear. I have never camped out of a bike so I am struggling with a list. Any info would be appreciated.

Well.. do you have any camping gear? Have you camped at all before?

You don't really need much. If you've backpacked in a previous life, you already have all the best gear.

Tent - 2-man 3 season w/full rain fly - long enough for your height

Sleeping bag - get at least a 20 degree mummy bag (IMO) just in case it gets chilly

Air Mattress - wal-mart has one that is 8 inches thick but will be cold if the temps drop and another one I use now that's kinda like the air mattresses you lay on in pools only made of thicker stuff and is about 4 inches thick.

For the ST, a weatherproof duffel bag works well to hold just about everything on the back seat.

A flashlight..

That's the quick list... The most important thing when camping is to be comfortable - I've worked it out to the point that I'm almost as comfortable in my tent as I am in my bed at home.
