I just replaced the OEM bulbs with these and they are brighter and very 'white'. The pics below don't show the difference YOU see when looking forward, it's much more dramatic.

Here are a couple pics with only the rigt side bulb replaced:

About time you got around to changing the stock bulbs. Good bulbs. Any 55/60 bulb is a ton better than the stock 45/45. I seem to have been bit by the left bulb premature burnout. I had to replace that one.

I've also upgraded... they are images from the album area in my personal album.

I just ordered a set of these and adapter rings for my ST1100 Monday. Can't wait to get them in and installed so I can put the bike back together.

WOW!

I rode to work this morning for the first time since putting the bulb in and WOW!

I'm thinking I don't have them aligned correctly or something but I need to point the lights all the way down w/knob and when looking at pickup tailgates and the backs of peoples' heads in cars I feel like they are too biright. Or aimed incorrectly.

When I pinched off the two bottom tabs I'm thinking I also flattened the raised area too much which might be the cause. I don't mind bright but I don't want an angry Dallas cager trying to run me down or thow a beer at me.

When I turn the knob all the way up it looks like I'm going bird hunting. I guess those little raised areas make a huge difference.

Hi Joe,

I saw something about the tilting issue on another post. What someone did is but a piece of heavy guage wire across the bottom of the bulb, I think, to tilt them correctly.

I wish I could remember where I saw this but I'm not sure.

Can I ask where you bought your bulbs from?

Thanks,
Curt

Curt...

What I ended up doing is using the center horizontal adjustment on the headlight assembly to aim the headlight down a little more...

Works like a charm.

I have used both the Phillpis and the Piaa blubs and they both seem to work the same. Because I am not particulary happy with the light pattern, I don't really care what is on the side of the road 15 feet front of me @75 mph, sooo, I use the high beam and angle down, much better. Now, I can see the ladder sooner.

I used the adapter rings and had no problems. What alignment problem have you heard about?

Steve

Nah, I had a new headlight assembly and it wasn't adjusted correctly.. .the center of the back of the headlight has an adjustment to raise the entire headlight up or down.

There are also individual adjustments to allow the left or right bulbs to be adjusted in or out (towards the center or out towards the road, if that makes any sense).

The adapter rings only allow you to use the 9003 bulbs in the bike and they are available at www.casporttouring.com

I installed the German Osram Silverstars(Not Sylvania Silverstars) in my ST1100, and boy are they bright. They are equal or maybe a little better than the Vision Plus.

I bought the adaptor rings and I was going to buy the bulbs you used but are you saying that the adaptor rings won't work with the bulbs you purchased?

I'm having the hardest time keeping all the 90XX numbers and HX numbers straight. Then what works and doesn't work with the rings or without.

I have the rings and I was going to purchase the Philips Vison Plus H4's (http://www.casporttouring.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=17180&Category_Code=st1300_electrical) but are you saying the adaptor rings don't work with those bulbs?

Utterly confused,
Curt

I have the adaptor rings in mine and they work fine. You have to cut or bend the two bottom tabs on the bulb, then put the adaptor rings on which have two re-positioned lower tabs and it will fit just fine. Mark Lawrence has good info on his site (HERE (http://motorcycleinfo.calsci.com/Lights.html#Headlights)).

I think NewsMag? just bent the lower tabs without using the ring and said it worked fine, I haven't tried that.

Hi Joe,

Ok thanks. That's what I had thought but I wanted to be sure.

Wow.. almost 4 years ago I put Phillips bulbs in my 2003 ST1300.

I got some for my '08 and was checking if anyone had done a review or anything, searching titles only, LOL... and found my post.. Ha!!

I know many others have used these but here are some current pics on the '08. I bought the adapter rings but they are such a pain to put in and it looked like they weren't the right size or something as the bulb would not fit flush. So, after 20 mins of struggling with getting one ring / bulb in I decided to pass on them and took 2 mins to install both bulbs, much easier.

Obviously, you have to cut the two bottom pins off the h4/9003 bulbs but they will fit just fine.

I ran into this as well with the shims I bought for my 05....then I found the original ones I had from my 97 ST1100. They fit perfectly. The later ones seemed to have a bit of a feather edge from the stamping process and once cleaned up with a file fit as well as the originals. Maybe someone's die is getting a bit worn????

Thanks Steve, I'll take a look at them and smooth off the edges.

I wonder just what the differences are:

I used the Osram Silverstars, WITHOUT the adapter rings.

Instead of cutting or bending both lower tabs, I trimmed both sides of the top tab - they seem to fit perfectly...?

Also, check my aiming target, post #12:
