This is the route I was telling you guys about:
Hwy. 5 to Hwy. 7 is really nice, but 341 is about 24 miles of nice
sweeping curves.

AR123 from AR164 (N in between Russellville and Clarksville) This is my
second favorite highway. At Hagerville (AR164), you can go west to
Clarksville (AR21) or east to Pelsor (AR7). If you go east, it's 28 miles
of beautiful twisties. Zero traffic and cops. Good road surface. NOTE:
AR123 continues NE from Lurton (AR7) for about 11 mile of great new
pavement and... without warning, turns to gravel! AR154 from AR7 at
Centerville to AR9 at Oppelo. This goes over Petit Jean Mt. / Park. AR16 /
AR9 from Clinton to Mt. View. 1st leg to Shirley is the best part. AR263
from AR92 by Brownsville to AR14 by Big Flat. Has some really great parts
and some really bad surfaces (especially around Fox to Onia). AR58 from
AR14 (E of Mt. View - fun too) to AR69 at Sage. The folks at Sony
PlayStation must have designed this road. From AR14 to Guion is real wide
and has some 40 mph chicanes that you can FLY on. County deputies like to
hang around just N of Guion. It's gets a lot tighter from Guion to Sage.
THE HOLY GRAIL AR341 from AR14 by Big Flat to AR5 by Norfork. The 17 miles
starting from AR14 is the best part. The road surface isn't as good from
the last 7 or 8 miles. David Edwards, the editor of CYCLE WORLD wrote
about this highway in the Jan. '00 issue. In the Feb. '00 issue, "Tour
Arkansas" ranked in the top 10 (I think) in "101 Things To Do Before You
Die". Waaaaaaaaay before ANY other state! As you can tell Mt.View is kind
of an "epicenter" of good highways. Many of our best are within 25 miles
of Mt. View. There's a Best Western right in the middle of town (at the
intersection of AR5-9-14). There are a few more hotels / motels (most N of
the BW) and several fast food places. Heck, there's even a Wal-Mart near by.

Awesome. Thanks for the graphic. That will help a lot. Also, I should add that there are lots of accomodations in Eureka Springs, Mountain Home, and Mountain View. We stayed at the Kettle Campground in Eureka, and I found it to be a really nice camping area.

If any of you guys come over to ride...make sure you "holler at me"! I have ridden some of those and they are great.

Remember that road well. Something about a somebody 'afeared' a bear was gonna tackle 'em from the back of a truck.:D

It's just a shame we didn't get a picture of that. I can't believe the Fish and Game folks ride around with Bears proped up on their tool boxes in Arkansas. :crackup

That terrifying critter did bear (PI!) a STriking resemblance to the one in the Mt. Nebo visitor center :). Maybe a cousin.

This sounds like a good three day weekend ride. Ride down to Branson, MO. Stay the night there and leave the girls to shop if they want and do a loop into AR and hit some good roads. Then be back for some good food and head back home the next day. Thanks for sharing the roads!

Bet you'all wished you lived here???

P.S.

Bears know that out-of-staters are much tastier, so they leave the locals alone.

As a matter of fact I rode the last 75 miles of the trip in a snow storm!!! But none of it was sticking much on the roads (there's so much salt on these roads it would have to be much colder than it was to stick). It did start to accumulate on the windscreen during the last 30 miles.

I hate to rub it in, but it got up to 70 here today. Of course, my bike is sitting in the garage waiting on fresh rubber, so that really doesn't matter. :(

Thanks Sue. Some day maybe my journeys will take me through the KC area. I 70 across Kansas has got to be one of the most boring roads in the country though. Unless of course you do it in the early spring and the wind is coming out of the north and it is snowing. Then it gets pretty interesting!!!!

The only good thing about KC is the ribs. :D They do know how to make some ribs.

I disagree. We have arts, culture, sports, family friendly events year round, museums, great food and more.

No...Cold would have been saying, well...at least you didn't say you had "good" sports. I have a friend that played for the Royals for a few years. Both he and I are glad that he got picked up by another team. Downtown Kansas was kind of cool, and I hear they have great hunting, but it starts running kind of thin after that, the food, and the museums. Plus, you guys have to worry about being in that tornado range during the tornado season, and you get your fair share of the freezing percipitation as well.
