Well, my buddy has been at it again. Saturday night he bought a HD 2006 FLHX Street Glide w/2000mi from a private party in Phoenix (Apache Junction).

I rode it the last 100 miles home. From Gila Bend to Yuma on the slab.

Beautiful MC. Just stunning in black. This is the 'sporterized' Road King, with special trim and wheels. It is nicely done, not so much on the bling. This one has the antenna (soft antenna in the fairing) removed and a taller (black) windscreen added. The taller screen is perfect for me, my buddy will want to put the stock one on. He got it and the antenna.

This is the '06, first year for the six speed. I am guessing top gear is the same (or very nearly so) as the older 5 speed, it just gives the short shifting crowd another whack at the throttle:) 3000 rpm at an indicated 75mph. It is also the FI twin cam balanced 88cid, power is smooth and reasonably consistent through the tachometer. It isn't going to slide you off of the 'custom' seat, but the power is decent. This one has the STock exhaust, the noise is pleasant on and off the bike. Not too loud, thankfully.

The ride is good, the seat is better than decent. I put about 70 miles on it at a stretch, had both hands tingling from time to time. I had to stop for gas, it wasn't going to make the whole 190 miles:) Right at 40 mpg using PREMIUM. By the time I got home, I was very glad to hop on the ST. Bike has full gauges (analog, of course), including 'air temp'. Well laid out, moderately easy to see. The FLHX has 'special' (read pricey) curved mirrors on both sides, fairing mounted. Pretty easy to see, I didn't like them at night. For the most part, it rode straight down the road, didn't seem affected by turbulence from the trucks. The tires are the typical HD tires, darn flat profile. For that reason, it wanted to 'follow' the mars in the pavement. Nowhere near the worst I have ridden, but no where near the ST, either. It is a pretty darn good ride, for an HD.

Conclusion: Pluses-Beautiful. Pretty civilized power and handling. Sounds good. XM radio, reasonably hearable.

Minuses: Short miler. 160 I had the fuel light on. Harley vibe (no way to get rid of that). SPENDY. This MC cost $22,000 out the door.

Would I buy one? Not even if I won the lottery.

Congrats to your buddy.

IF I won the lottery, that's the Harley I'd buy. That's the best looking bike they make to me. I'm like your buddy though, I'd have to have the short screen.

My buddy is die hard harley, and I keep trying to talk him into one.

I can't help but feel the call sometimes of the Street Bob. No Room And those Ape Hangers Look better than they ride I'm sure. But the BAD GIRL in me still wants one. A Skull Cap Helmet with a sticker that says Locked and Loaded, Try Me. Yeah, what more could you want after a hard day at work dealing with unreasonable A-Holes.
