I've decided to take the ST1300 decals off my cowls and replace them with a pair of Pan European medalions I got from someone in the UK. The medalions don't have the original adhesive on them (but a small amount is still there.) Looks like a tan double sided tape with a thin foam center? Anyone know what this adhesive material is and where I can get some? Thanks - Bob

Bob:

Rather than looking for the adhesive that Honda uses, try this: use double-backed tape as used to secure automotive trim. Most auto parts stores will have this. Cut the tape into strips that are slightly longer than the badge. Remove one of the waxed paper covers from the tape, then affix parallel rows of the strips to the underside of the badge. Use a razor blade or utility knife to trim away the unnecessary tape. Peel away the second layer of waxed paper, locate where the badge will go, and press it on. One more badge and you're done.

Hey Bob,
just as Marshal says, use the 3m product made for this. I believe it's grey on the sides and red in the middle, or vice versa, can't remember. Use the 1" size, not the larger size.

When taking off the old decals, mark their position first with masking tape, in the front and back. No point in trying to figure the exact postioning if you've already got it.

Also, use water based 'goof off' to remove left over glue from the badges and anything left from removing the decals. Works great.

I used a hair dryer to try to speed along the process a bit. I luv having the badges, and they are on there very securely for sure.

Thanks Marshall and Hankster. That's just what I needed. I head over to NAPA at lunch... Bob

Don't know if it's the same product, but Wal-Mart has a double sided exterior tape made by 3m. I found it in the paint dept, where they display the masking tape and such.

I'll find out how good it is. I'm going to use it to install my Fenda-Extenda :)

does this double sided tape last? i have a couple of small plastic venturi's designed to emit a high pitched tone to scare stray stock, kangaroos etc off the road (so the theory goes) thanks

STOnkin,
the stuff I used, by 3m, described above, definately is lasting very well. It's kinda odd, the stuff doesn't feel real tacky, and I had some doubts at first.

But it works with a chemical reaction, some heat and I think 24hrs. So neither the wind, rain, etc has caused the badges to budge, solid as a rock.

Regards, and good luck with those roos ;)

thanks Hank - tricky buggers these roos - very quick and in my experience completely unpredictable i will call in and grab the tape tomorrow.
