Here's some info for this coming years CT-STOC. I'll update as necessary.
Cabin Rentals:
#1 : Bob and Mary (bluestormer)
#2 : Steve (SteveST1300)
#3 : Bones (bones)
#4 : Available! 1 Double Bed and 3 twin bunks
#5 : Big Al
If anyone wants to stay indoors instead of in a tent, I still have 1 cabin left. After it rents you'll have to deal with whoever has each unit rented to bunk up. If the Person who rented the unit want's it all to themselves.....that's their perogative. If I was camping with my family I would want to be alone with my family too, so don't be upset with them if they don't want company.
Tenting is still going to be $10/tent/night.
Also I've got the CT-STOC 2007 website up and ready. It can be seen here:
http://ctstoc.fateback.com/index.html
If anything on the website looks incorrect just let me know. I tried to rebuild as much info as I could after the ST-Owners crash. To be added to the list of Participants just click on the link at the bottom of the list and give me the appropriate info and I'll get it in there.

AHHHHH. Home again.
Thanks to Wendy for taking the official CT-STOC logo pic.
It's farkle time for me. The bike is naked in the garage with wires all over it.
Heated grips with Heatroller (Brian, I was able to get them off and on with my puny compressor).
Autocom hardwired in the back with the PTT switch on the handlebars (FRS anyone?).
BlueSea fusebox in the back.
Auxiliary lights on the front forks.
And last but not least, a Garmin Zumo 550 between the bars. This gadget is going to be sweet. Bluetooth to the phone, mp3 player and XM radio with Navtraffic.
And best of all, I can get rid of the tankbag from hell. No more snake's nest of wires, or honking the horn or lowering the windscreen when turning the bars all the way.
AHHHHHH!.........Home again.

Jeff (jcorwin) has just informed me that with his busy work schedule he may or may not be able to make it to CT-STOC and so he gave up his cabin which was cabin #2 and will tent it if he can make it. So that opens that one up first come first serve. If you want it, shoot me a PM.

I've been informed there's no more cabins available. :(
Brian - Your first post still says theres one left.
georgeorge
03-14-2007, 07:10 AM
Yeah Al there is one left. They were all rented, but Jcorwin had to back out so now I have one available. Would you like it?
Edit:
I think I see what happened. You called the campground to rent it? I think so. If you had done that all they know at this point is that I have all of them tied up. Gail really has no idea who exactly will be in them at this point, but I am renting them out at this point. After April 15th, when the Campground opens, I'll give Gail my list then I'll PM each person who reserved with me and have them call in to confirm and put down the deposit. Anyway, I do still have one left. Sorry about the confusion, Al.

I am going to have to pass on this one again guys... BUMMIN' BIG TIME!
My lovely bride only asks for a few weekends a year to do workshops with Martha Weatherby (sp?) who is one of the, if not "The" living master of Shaker Basketry. She tours the country and lands in New England a few times a year, and I do what I can to make sure J can attend those workshops. Those of you who have been to the house may have noticed several Shaker, and Nantucket baskets about that she has made, they are really very beautiful. She puts up with me taking A LOT of time to ride and fly fish, so it's the least I can do.
Cabin #4 is now free game....

That's not a problem at all. We'll make room for ya. Maybe one of the guys might have an available bunk in their cabin for you, but either way (tent or bunk) come on over. We'd be happy to have you even if just one night. Oh and if your girlfriend does come and you want a motel room, there's one about 5 miles away.

#1 : Bob and Mary (bluestormer)
#2 : Steve (SteveST1300)
#3 : Bones (bones)
#4 : No longer available...rented to other happy campers
#5 : Big Al
The phone number for the camp office is (800)828-6478.

Actually I'll be good, since I'm of the mind there are times and situations when a trailer just makes things either possible when otherwise not, or just makes certain situations go significantly better. Then there are other times when it's right to ride the bike till you numb butt falls off. The right tool for the job kind of thing.
When will you guys figure the route for this. I want a look at it to see if there's any way for me to get up at some ungodly hour, leave from my place, and hook up with yous early on, and then split off for home Saturday evening. I'm figuring that would work well for anything you'll be running other than if you head east towards RI.
You going to mess with MA and north again? lots of nice roads up there.

Carl, I was thinking on Saturday about (1) heading north through west-central Mass into some back roads I've been exploring north of the Quabbin Reservoir, then back down to the campground via my neck of the woods, or (2) heading west through the northern tier of CT, maybe into southern MA briefly, then down into the Berkshire Hills in NW CT. Choice (1) should have less traffic. These routes won't have the higher speed roads such as we enjoyed in NY...lots of narrow widths and short sight distances. Still very nice roads. Saturday lunch under choice (1) could possibly be at Bub's BBQ (MA116 in North Amherst)...have to confirm their opening schedule after Labor Day. Greg, Kempo and Dr Bones will be at my place Saturday. We can talk through some ideas.

Those are my kind of roads Bones, I love them. Those route possibilities seem like something I could reasonably hook up with if I roll out of bed early enough, and get home from in the evening OK. Keep me posted when you get it figured.
STeve, It's kinda up in the air right now if I can show for overnight, so I'm covering all the bases. Even if it's raining and I wouldn't want to tent it, I could get up early and hook up for the ride wet or dry. I'm working on being able to stay over Sat night.

HAH! Go for it Dudes, you'll be stuck using it to repair those ST Mother Ships when plastic part fasteners drop off from wallowing along the MA back roads. :croc: Of course my little SV will have no such problem, and is made for those roads. :mcrider: I'm invulnerable to duct tape since I'm hairless like the American Indian, and what ever's on my head could use a haircut anyway. All that salad eating made my body hair turn green and fall out. :shrug1: Besides I'll have my own roll of tape along and I remember some of yous perps being pretty durn bushy 'bout the bod. You snore way to loud to hear me coming so behave yourselves. :crackup
This duct tape thingie is almost as much a dead end as the Pig Roast was (Pig Roast which has been transfered to Greg's capable hands for NNESTOC, which he is trying to duck out on:pig1: ).
Uh Oh, I think the commitment dribble is drying up, sadly I'm off for both ONSTOC and NNESTOC which is why I'm real happy to make this one. However I'm working on the pre-ride to see if that's a possible.
If I don't make the pre-ride, I'll bring the BabySV to CTSTOC so we get to swap Greg.

Thats right John.... We do the best that we can to keep our family happy and if that means bringing the bike on a trailer so be it. BTW those trailer pics are downright scary and it is a good thing I did not see an ST in them.
I think the most pathetic trailer case I witnessed was a nice FJR strapped down when we passed them going through Zion back in the Spring and to top it off we passed them again when they were headed back out of the park. That road just begs to be ridden.

Let me know when you figure Mapsource out Bones.
Do you by any chance have any of the routes that you and Eddie took last week, mapped out as a .gpx ? Sam and I are planning our trips down to NH and CT and would like to avoid the "Slab" at all cost.
See you guys in a week or so.

Eddie should have those. Drop him a line. There are some County roads in NY that are great heading east and south of I-81, just where you need to go. We did his route that yins and yans with the State roads down to Tupper Lake.
When you get to Long Lake, try 27N. Some miles along there's a left on Essex County 84. It used to be NY2...same road, older maps might list it as 2. Lots of nice twisties on the way to Blue Ridge and US9. Lots of options from there, including the Champlain Bridge (with a park on the Vermont side) or a couple ferries for NNESTOC, and south a bunch of ways toward CT.

Are there going to be organized rides or are we on our own? Are we meeting for breakfast on Friday again? What are the plans?
georgeorge
08-26-2007, 07:45 PM
Well yes.... we will be meeting for breakfast on Friday Morning and I'm thinking that we should keep tradition alive and meet somewhere in the western half of the state and get a decent ride in. I've been very busy at work lately so I have not figured any rides yet. I do have some nice road chosen that I'd like to incorporate into our Saturday ride. Speaking of that.... it looks like we're gonna have quite a few bikes here this year and so others who know the area should try to come up with proposed routes of their own and then on Friday night and Saturday morning those who don't know the area can team up with a group of their liking and go with it. We won't have to be back to the campground for any specific time and Saturday like we have in the past because the annual cook-out at the campground falls on the following week-end from CT-STOC. That should make it easier for everyone to go ride and not have to rush back. For dinner on Saturday night, I'm proposing a spaghetti dinner right up in the Safari field in the pavilion. I can get the sauce done and ready before CT-STOC starts and then get it heated up and ready on Saturday after the ride. I should only need an hour and a half or so to get it finished up and ready to eat.
I think.....and am asking......uhhh......Michelle?.?.?..... can you do the Friday night chili/hamburgers thing again this year? That would be so nice! If Michelle's busy though we WILL find food.
Anyway so to answer some of the questions about routes, I'm gonna need a little time to get one together. I'm thinking that I'll have a 130-150 miles route planned.
SteveST1300

Well, I'd like to work in a visit and an "ST Blessing" at the new digs. Then all of us fat guys ride back to the CG and get stinkin drunk around the fire.
As for rides and ride preps I've been LAME on this one....With the move and every weekend being crammed with house stuff and just have not been able to pull anything together:(
and to be honest not sure if I can either...Every weekend something is going on. Need to figure something out.

OK, so there we have it. I'll do the Sketti for Friday night and we'll do dinner Saturday at Todd's house. I think he just wants a picture of the gang with the original banner hanging in his garage. Who can blame him. If you guys wanna pay for these two meals, that's fine with me, but I'll wait to collect till the meals over. That way we can actually figure out the costs to the minute and not over-charge anyone. The cost for the Saturday night meal is up to Todd and Michelle, but I'll re-state what others have already said... any amount is alright with me. That chili is well worth it.

You leading a group Uncle Boney??? Count me in if you are.
I'm calling that bald SprinT thrasher, kneeling in his wet tent waxing his head before the ride so the water in the helmet don't sog through his noggin to the brain, an Old Bud :old1: ... or is that just newborn peach fuzz sprouting out of there youngster?
Anyway GrandPops, should I bring the Baby SV so when we ride with Uncle Boney we can swap bikes for a couple of miles, or can I bring the Bandit with the ancient duffer's comfortable couch from Russel on it, so I get a powdered fluff butt couch massage on the ride?
I took my Daughter for her first ever ride that was more than 15 miles yesterday. We took the Russel Seat, I mean Bandit. We did 410 miles of mostly back roads with a bit of slab home late at night. More to the point we were gone 16 hours, lots of that in the saddle (though 16 hours is counting walking, shopping, and conversation over food.
My arms were annoyed but both our backsides were singing songs of comfort and joy. Staying on for a whole lot more would have been simple if the seat were the only consideration. The durn Russell is annoying at stops, but otherwise would be worth considerably more than I was charged for it (and that was a LOT of $$$$) if one were to do a lot of miles real often.
Oh yeah, when I changed the countershaft sprocket back to stock it brought the rear wheel forward in the swingarm slot. We went to pass an oinker of a truck from a rolling 25mph slowdown...
ended up doing a 45 degree wheelie past, seems you just can't twist all the way open in second gear even when laying on the tank, with the extra weight of passenger and luggage on the back. I shoulda got a Moto Guzzi. Actually with the weighting of the bike you have to be careful without a passenger, but with... surprise, surprise.
Man, you're getting to old to ride if'n I gotta answer a question of this magnificent silliness :butt1:

Thanks, Al. I may get your help this weekend with the current route, too. I'll be playing with my route some more, finding lay-bys and food options. It's not long enough that proper sport-touring bikes will need a gas stop, but I'll work in some petrol parks for the rest of you (Carl). There is very little overlap with last year's long ride -- one nice stretch of 202, Northfield Road in the other direction, and 32 down toward the campground. Nothing west of the CT River this year.

Vermilion smells real cool, better than Quinacridone, Yummmeee. Cerulean has always been a light soft favorite, wafting along the STudio breezes as well.... sigh. :drool1: I'll soon be braking out the Terra Rosa for the Nude I've got drawn out on the easel. Then everybody jump back. The brain will be going sideways for a very long time on that one.
Uncle Boney, about 120-140 mi. out would be nice for a petrol infusion.

I just wanna clarify for anyone staying in a cabin what you'll need to bring with you. You'll need to bring your own blankets or sleeping bags and pillows and towels and soaps/shampoos and toilet paper if your in #1, #2 or #3. Units #4 and #5 have no plumbing in them so you'll be using the public restrooms and showers and there is toilet paper there. Usually the people who stayed in the unit before you will leave the remainder of the roll that's on the hanger, but once it's gone you're on your own. I realize you might not want to pack some stuff like that because of the space limitations of the bike, but we do sell stuff like that in our camp store so it's up to you.

Both me and Todd have been so busy this year we've had little time to plan any routes, but trust me there will be some nice routes available. I may not be able to put one together until next week-end or the following one just in time for CT-STOC but some of the other that attend this event are planning some routes as well so you'll have choices.
Don't let our unpreparedness (is that a word) scare you. We've got this under control. Usually a little earlier, but still. Have faith little grasshopper. You'll have a blast.

There's the Hop River Motel in Columbia, CT and it's only about 10-15 minutes away. That's the closest one.
Looks like I'm probably not going to try and make this work... kid, dog, borrowed and less than ideal trailer that I wouldn't normally want to slab that far... also the only weekend of the next 6 I have any option to be home, be focused primarily on Jesse, and get some last minute 'before winter' schtuff done too. I was extraordinarily motivated to get down there to meet one of the folks who I recently heard can't make it... I'll miss you guys and gals, have fun, ride safe :)

Oh blowin' me off now, hey! I still love you.... in a 'like' kinda way. We'll miss you.
On another note, I did get to planning a Saturday route today. I've scheduled our first stop about 10 minutes into the ride for a stop at Dunkin' Donuts for a quick breakfast and there's a gas station right across the street. For lunch I've heard from Todd and Michelle that the Dock & Dine Restuarant in Old Saybrook is worth the ride, so I've planned that into this ride as our lunch stop. This their website if you'd like to check out their menu: http://www.jtkmanagement.com/dockdinect/default.aspx . It's only about 50 miles and 1 hour 45 minutes from the breakfast stop to the lunch stop, so that's why I've just scheduled the quicky breakfast at Dunkin' Donuts. In the following file Dunkin Donuts is waypoint #4. Dock & Dine is waypoint #16. I figured in an hour and a half for lunch/photo ops and then we hit the road again. At waypoint #28 I've figured in a half hour stop. I'm not yet sure where in that area we will stop, but I will figure that out. From there it's up through the U-Conn campus in Storrs and then over to Todd and Michelles place in Hebron. This ride as it sits is 132.4 miles long and with stops figured in should take approx. 7 hours so I figure a 10 O-clock start should get us to Dock & Dine at lunch time and should land us at Todd's place at about 5.
Before you tell me that the ride is not long enough, It is for some. That's why I've planned it this length. Other's will chime in with some longer rides for those wanting more. I know Bones is working on one of these longer ones.
Here's the MS Streets and Trips file for my ride and a PDF of the ride that's really not much help, but just gives a basic idea of our route.

Sure, I'll be here on that Thursday so I'll give you an escort ride right to the place. I have no idea what to expect from the Hop River Motel as I've never stayed there before so I would like to come check it out with you anyway. That way I'll know in the future if it's smart for me to send people there. I have no reason to think it's a 'Hole' but I would like to check it out.
And there will be several of us riding to breakfast together on Friday morning. We'll prolly meet up with Todd and Steve in Hebron on Friday morning. It's gonna be about an hour and a half ride from there so we should get a 7:30-ish start and that should get us to the Blue Colony Diner for breakfast at about 9-9:30.

billxp; Thanks for the suggestion however the Tappanzee is not an option for me for a number of reasons...but mainly because i have a problem with bridges....so my route will be the NJTPK-to the GWB(lower level)then I will get on the Henry Hudson Pkwy take that to the Cross County Exprsswy which will then lead into the Hutchinson Pkwy then becomes the Merrit Pkwy...then this will run into I-91 and from there..Rt3 to Rte 2 to Rt66 etc....
I feel this is my best alternative and the time of day I leave will get me thru the GWB before 12:00 noon...so that should be alright...BNE

Sounds good Brian.
I'll try to make the Saturday ride, and I'll probably have a guest. Is it 10:00 at the campground entrance ?

See you there Mac.
Dawn's putting in for this at work, so we plan on her coming with me two up for weekend. We will be staying with STeve, and bringing the Bandit instead of the SV.
We'll hook up with you guys at the Friday Breakfast, and we'll be coming in from home that morning.

THURSDAY RIDERS....
Anybody arriving Thursday afternoon/evening..
The party is at my house! We usually unofficially kick this thing off on Thursday evening with the hot tub (men PLEASE bring your bathing suits and ladies, bathing suits are optional:eek: :) )
Nothing like a good soak in the tub after a long ride so my brothers and sisters, its all yours!
Also a couple of things for Thursday..
We have room for a couple of folks inside..Not a big house but it is cozy..got a pull out couch, a couple of extra couchs and a queen air mattress..
Also for consideration, pitching your tent in my front yard or even in the garage if you need cover. Its all good with me..So anyone needs a place for Thursday without too much fuss and wants to party without needing to get anywhere, feel free...
FRIDAY...
Looks like a ride down to the Blue Colony for the ride back...
Maybe we can redo the Friday ride of 2 years ago..JOHN AG-STER..
Your ride through the Litchfield hills was a good one and maybe Castle Craig will be open...Can someone dig up that route from the Archives????
SATURDAY...
I think I am going to be hanging with Brian on the shorter route and hoping Bones can lead the charge on the longer one that I assume will be taken up through Mass...Plan on my house for around 5:30..
Let's start nailing this down..
Thursday I know Steve O from NJ will be heading to my place..
Anyone Else??
MAC ster, want to throw your tent up at my place? Got power for a heater if necessary and an airmatress...Anyone else for Thursday??
Let me know whay you guys want to do. Just PM me and don't be shy..

Well..The food is anyway...
Michele will be serving her world famous Chili and around 5:30 ish..
So the plan is to pull into my house around then, feast on food and then head back to Campground for Caveman TV and Beer..
Friday evening we'll be doing Spaghetti at the CG...

Can do but last time we cut it short because of the rain. If it's not raining we can head up thru Cornwall and the covered bridge. I'll post the new route after I have ridden it. Time to get this buggy movin'.

There is even a possibility that I might bring my daughter.

I am not sure if the SO will be coming. I just checked the 10 day for Spring Green WI and their temps are going to be chilly. Not for me for her, so depends on what the temps will be in Lebanon. If she elects not to go, I will be tenting and the Bunkhouse will stay home. My options will be wide open then, but if she rides with me, then we will probably set up at the campground in the Bunkhouse. Thanks for the offer and I'll keep you posted.

I'm tellin' ya.... we need the rain so bad. The lake is about a foot low and I've never seen the roads so dusty in the campground. So because I would like some rain right now.... it ain't gonna happen.

My Address is 480 Wall Street, Hebron, CT
Easiest way from Hartford is 91 to Route 2 East
Exit 13 (Route 66) Take a left off the exit
About 10 minutes or so, you will come to the intersection for route 85 (where you would turn right to get to the campground) Go THROUGH the intersecton to the next light in 1/10th of a mile and turn left onto Route 316 (AKA Wall Street)
I am up the road about 2.2 miles. 3rd driveway on right after Basketshop Road
You can't see the house from the road but the number is on a tree.
IF you need the websight from Brian's campground its: www.watersedgecampground.com

Maybe you'll pass me on your way in.... I'm taking the long way... Thru a bit of Canada, then NY, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Mass, and RI before settling in CT... I gotta cross off alot of states on this trip... and alot on the way back. I'm aiming to arrive Friday PM, and leave early Sun AM... also camping. Gonna leave early Thursday AM. It would suck to arrive Saturday after everyone has left on rides.... but just in case... are there any contact phone numbers if I need them??? Thanks!!!

So I'm seriously considering bagging next Friday at the office to join you miscreants for fun and frolic Thursday evening and for the Friday ride.
ToddSTer, I would appreciate some floorspace for Thursday night.
I need more info of the Friday ride, specifically, when do we get back to the campground? I want be there to greet Mary and welcome Steve and Brenda, who will be sharing the trailer with us.

John and Todd usually plan the ride in as it usually takes us through western CT and they know that side of the state way better than I. But anyway I would hope to be at the campground by 4:30-5:00ish cause I still have to cook the sketti for supper that night.:eat2:

We both will be at the campground Friday afternoon. Not sure on the Friday ride in yet from the diner but who knows. I'm steering towards the shorter ride behind Brian as of right now on Saturday.

Well, I had my dates wrong and found out my band has a wedding on Saturday late afternoon..so that kills any rides for me that day, unless a route goes close to Tolland around noon to early afternoon so I can peel off.
Since I won't be able to take Friday off from work, Nancy and I might be relegated to driving over in the car Friday night for the festivities.
Any Sunday rides?
