OK...I have not done this..yet. I have taken the front and back wheels off to have new tires put on. I also changed the coolant and the thermostat along with the other fluids (not brake). I assume that i should NOT start the bike even in neutral?? with the wheels off? issues with the ABS? I would like to let the thing run to make sure I have the coolant leak fixed and all the hoses are ok. the new shoes apparently have been put on the back burner at the shop that I took them....for the last time. I am sure this is a stupid question but I have earned the stupid title here and I wear it proudly!:o:
but have ya ever seen cuter grandkids??? of course not!

I don't know about the original question, but you do have darn cute grandkids.
Reminds me of a story.
You know what you name a dog with no legs?
Don't matter what you call him, he isn't going to come anyhow.

Be careful not to apply the front or rear brakes. You will chance pushing the caliper pistons out

An old brake pad and a C-clamp on each caliper cuts that risk down to nearly nothing.

Thanks for the replies. I wondered about the above. A couple weeks ago, after i removed the rear wheel I reconnected a "back-off" module to the tail light. At that time I tapoed the front brake lever to see if it was working. What should i look for and do? My wife has told me, "if you can't/won't cook, stay out of the kitchen!" I am beginning to see an analogy!
